LED tails...really?

The 2014 taillights are LED, right? I mean, it's obvious that the "outer" ring is lit by LEDs....but what about the actual brake lamps themselves? Are those regular old incandescent bulbs? And what about the center-mount brake light? Is that LEDs or incandescent bulbs?

Everything except the outer ring is incandescent.

So it has LED taillights, but not LED brake lights? That's lame.

Re: LED tails...really?

Seems like Jeep had to cut corners (ridiculous on their flagship vehicle) and just made the running lights LED so they can advertise them as LED's. Kind of misleading. Really, how much more would it have cost to make the entire rear lights LED? Maybe $50.00 per vehicle? Include that in the base price and no one would notice it. Chrysler must have hired some of the bean counters from GM to dream up these stupid ideas.

The rear turn signal / brake lamps are incadecsent. According to the owner's manual: 3157 P27/7W.

You should be able to switch those out with a lifetime-warrantied kit from VLED: RED V3 TRITON LED SYSTEM | 1 PAIR (BACKORDERED 10-18-13) B/O

The center-mount is already LED.

Cool, thanks for sharing this part. It doesn't look like there are too many parts to install. I'll have to add this to my Christmas list!

I've asked why this was done. The only answer that I was given that it was cooler to have the LED portion of the taillamps exclusively kinda follow the design of the headlamps. Best I can do.

I haven't heard one person say that it was done to cut costs.

Post pics and videos of the install!

What's really crazy is out of that whole taillight only the small outside part is actually the turn signal. Jeep should've used the entire taillight for that.

I think they look cool anyway....

CHALLENGERBIZJET 10-14-2013 12:52 AM

The lights are cool but the small amount of room in the lens that illuminates the turn signal is kinda weird.
