Interesting Interaction With Insurer

When I received notice that my dealer had my SRT I called my insurer to set up coverage when I picked the SRT up.

The call center rep asked me at least 5 times whether I had made any "modifications" to my SRT. My guess is that they have experience with mods and they didn't go well. She asked me if I had a supercharger added to the vehicle. I thought that was funny and I said thanks for the idea. That didn't go over so well. At the end of the process my insurance actually went down from the rate on my Overland. Just a combination of factors that did this. Mainly age and driving record.

Isn't it funny how that works? My 2010 jgc srt8 was cheaper to insure than my v6 awd 300s.

When I traded out of the 10', I called my agent because I was sure they made a mistake. They said my policy went up so drastically because the Jeep had more "safety features" than the Chrysler. Still makes no sense lol. A couple side airbags on a 60k 420hp suv made my monthly payment 80 less than a 35k awd 295hp sedan. Bizarre.

My '12 is about $200 cheaper over 6 months than my wife's lancer.... I don't understand insurance sometimes.

Insurance is about statistics. Although SRT's are rare where I live, most of the SRT drivers that I have seen, are middle aged. This group is a safer to insure. My insurance went down $300 over the year.

Another factor can be when multiple cars are on the same policy. Some companies apply a discount to the second and third car, but not the one listed as primary.

Yes, I'm happy to report that my $70K fully insured 2014 SRT GC was cheaper to insure than a 2002 VW GTI 1.8T by a lot!

I did ask if they had understood me that this was a 6.4L 470HP vehicle that costs about 20 times more than the Volkswagen, they said yes...

Whatever, I won't complain!

I was also pleasantly surprised. My '14 SRT is on order so I did a quick price quote and it is about $10/6 months less to insure a brand new $70K jeep than my 2007 Lexus IS350 which is now worth about $16K. Crazy, but i'm not complaining. I'll need the extra I was budgeting for fuel.:lol:
