2008 WK rear quarter glass, R&R?

New to this site, and am looking for info on how to R&R the rear quarter-glass. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Glass replacement of any sort is almost never worth it to the DIY'er, IMO.

By the time you source the glass, transport it, and purchase the special tools needed to do a proper install and the time taken to do the job itself, the amount a glass installer will charge to do it for you will seem quite reasonable...

Door glass is a little easier, but still usually not worth the hassle.

If you still want to tackle it yourself:

REMOVAL
1. Before proceeding with the following repair procedure,
review all warnings and cautions (Refer to 23
- BODY/STATIONARY GLASS - WARNING).
2. Remove the quarter panel trim from the side of the
vehicle being serviced (Refer to 23 - BODY/INTERIOR/
QUARTER PANEL TRIM - REMOVAL).
3. Carefully pull down the headliner to access the
upper mounting studs that secure the quarter glass
(1) to the window fence (2) and, remove the nuts
from the studs.
4. Remove the nuts that secure the lower mounting
studs to the window fence and, remove the nuts
from the studs.
5. Using razor knife, cut butyl sealer between the
mounting studs that secure the quarter glass to
window fence.
6. Carefully push the quarter window glass from the
opening.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Roll down the left and right front door
glass and open the liftgate glass before installing
quarter glass to avoid pressurizing the passenger
compartment if a door is slammed before urethane
is cured. Water leaks can result.
NOTE: The quarter glass fence should be cleaned
of all old butyl sealer. Do not grind sealer off the
fence, the paint finish will be adversely affected.
1. Apply 6 mm (0.25 in.) wide butyl tape around
perimeter of the quarter glass (1) approximately 5
mm (0.2 in.) from the edge of the glass. Ensure the
butyl tape is wrapped around the mounting studs.
2. Place the quarter glass into the window opening (2)
and insert mounting studs through the holes in the
window fence.
3. Install the nuts that secure the quarter glass to the
window fence. Tighten the nuts to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.).
4. Install the headliner.
5. Install the quarter panel trim (Refer to 23 - BODY/INTERIOR/QUARTER PANEL TRIM - INSTALLATION).

Thanks for the reply, but I just need to R&R it to fix hail damage.

Perhaps I misunderstood the acronym? Does "R&R" stand for remove and replace?

If so, the directions above are what you can follow. If it is something else, obviously, I can't be much help as I have no idea what R&R is actually referring too!

Yes,stands for remove and replace. I believe the directions you posted refer to an earlier model GC, the ones with a 2-piece rear seat door glass...1995-1999,? Thanks

The directions are from the 2005 model year. I do not believe this is different from the 2008.

O.K., thanks. The part about removing the trim makes sense for a 2005-2008, but not for an earlier model.

Thanks for the info, but I found out the gkass is in with urethane, and the glass co. says it will most likely break trying to remove ut. Does anyone know if the trim ( reveal molding ) ie removable? Thanks

Which brings us back to my first post- it's not really a job worth tackling yourself. The butyl tape (not urethane) can be cut to remove the window without breaking it, but it's a pita.

Wish it was butyl tape, but it's urethane. also, no bolts.

Re: 2008 WK rear quarter glass, R&R?

the rear quarter glass is held with urethane. Without removing the entire rear window(by cutting through the urethane....which I had done by a glass company on my 2006)...the only choice to repair the molding is to buy the aftermarket covers on ebay. I believe they are stainless steel. The moldings are not available separate oem as they are part of the rear 1/4 window.

I had my rear windows removed on my 2006 and new windows installed. It took them about 1 hour for each side. They cut through the urethane....removed and cleaned and then urethaned the new windows in. Cost about $200 here in KY.
