MPG on the road

I figure I'd start this as every auto forum has a mpg thread sooner or later.

V6 with 850 miles:

26.8 mpg freeway - got this for a 15 mile run doing 65-70 mph with 4 people and the a/c running.

15.1 mpg city - my city driving is the worst case scenario, cold short trips about 5 miles round trip with hills and a bunch of lights.

This is a repost from a post I did on the towing thread.

My Durango is averaging around 13mpg right now for the life of the car under trip screen. When I reset the counter under fuel screen I get about 21.3 using 89 on long trips. I get about 10 when reset in cities. I have a lead foot. On my most recent trip to NY I was in the 20s on the way, drove around NY a bit and back. Fuel for the while trip was around 18 in the Hemi.

13.8 on 89/93 octane and 16 on 87 with 10% ethanol. WTF

That is weird. All other things being equal economy should be worse with an ethanol blended fuel.

The mid/high grade isn't required for the V6, so no benefit to using it. HEMI, I don't recall what the recommended is.

So many variables, that can't be correct if you remove them. Driving style/weather outside, cold or hot/how many stop signs or lights you hit/roads you were on had more hills ect. I know no one has the time to really do a fair comparison, but this seems too far off from the slight difference maybe 1 mpg difference you might actually see. I'm not a mechanic or an engineer, I just play them on this forum...

As you can see, my total average is 13.6 so far, which is below what I shod get city by .4. Most of my miles have of course been hwy as it would take forever to put on almost 3k in the city. On hwy trips, I get around 21mpg (with minor traffic) so not sure how to take this. I must be getting a half mile to the gallon in city conditions...

That range by the way, is on a full tank minus maybe a gallon about 14 miles if driving. Far cry from 500 with the Hemi. They must have angels driving in Detroit.

Well with 14 mpg that range seems right.
If you go with the 21 you said you are getting on the hwy, that puts you right at 500 miles. So I guess they do know what they are talking about in Detroit!

It's 14 city 22 Hwy 16avg. So I am below what it should be average considering most of my miles prob over 75% have been Hwy. so my average should be perhaps a little higher than 16.

Either way, I'm not upset. I've never gotten posted MPG ratings. Don't expect them, don't want to drive the way you need to to get them.

Loving my V6 MPGuhs! ...25.4 with AWD and still breaking it in so expected a lot worse :-)

Recent ~90 mile trip with fully loaded Durango, family of 5, two car seats and filled cargo area: First 5 miles of really slow NYC traffic, then 65 miles of highway and 20 miles of flowing country driving.

647 miles on first tank. 29.1 mpg average from new delivery. 25% city/75% hwy. Got 35.5 at 60mph cruise over an 18 mile flat stretch.

Oh....3.0 diesel powered :)

Ok, you win. But my MPGuhs cost a lot less upfront and around 15-20% less ongoing...shhh, with half the torque :-(.

The v6 gasser does surprisingly well in a 5k pound vehicle.
