Painted my Limited Headlights

Baked the headlights for about 10 min @ 200 deg. Pulled them apart pulled the bezels and removed the reflectors from the bezels.

used Dupli Color High Performance Wheel Coating - Satin Black ---

with a 3x base coat of Primer. I RECOMMEND NOT using a adhesion promoter, I tried to and it ran and dripped and looked like shit. So, just use a filler primer or something to that effect that leaves a nice smooth finish so you don't have to sand.

Then, do 2-3 medium coats of the color paint. NO CLEAR.

Pop the bezel back in the headlamp. Use either a heat gun on the surrond of the headlight housing and lense seal back up, I recommend doing this putting back together rather then using the oven again. that way you can get the reused urathane to melt how you want it to.

I did not add any sealant to the headlights, I just reused the old urathane. DO NOT USE SILICONE, this does not bond to residual urathane and will cause your lamps to leak overtime. just reuse the old stuff or pick up a tube of windshield urathane.

I also taped my refectors for the parking lights/turn signals because it keeps their full brightness/functionality and replaced the reflectors in the sides as well, all for legality reasons and OEM styling.

During this time, I also wetsanded and compounded my headlights, they were all etched with yellowing and aging. They are a little hazy, I'm gonna have to go over them again with a high speed and compound, should be crystal clear then.

GOOD TO GO.

I just reused the original urathane. If you need extra sealant (notice humidity or leaking into the housing) then you need to add more, use the black windshield urathane. Not silicone like so many will tell you...

I also want to do mine like this but I'm thinking also to paint the inner refectors for parking lights/turn signals black. What do you think?

Not legal...but I'm probably doing it at some point too. I hate the amber lenses.

Ya when I replaced my headlights I went with the black insert:

New headlights are so cheap and look so good over pitted/scratched ones that IMO its a pretty good option.
