Passenger Dome light won't turn off

Today on the way to work my passenger dome light turned on by itself. I pushed the button to turn it off and it got brighter. So the light that is staying on is the one that comes on when you open the door, not the one that comes on with the button. All other lights come on and go off when you open and close a door. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm worried it is going to drain my battery. This is a 2014 overland.

Silly question, did you press it a second time or only once? Can't explain why it came in at first, but I know I've pushed it while it was already on with the door open and that basically just turned it on permanently even when I shut the door. I had to press it again to turn it off.

It will not shut off no matter how many times I push the button. the button controls one of two lights right next to each other. The light that only should come on with the door open Is the one that won't turn off. I even tried turning the dimmer switch which turns all lights off inside when you have a door open. It still would not go off. i'm going to start pulling fuses or take if to the dealer tomorrow. frustrating...

Hi there--

I've got a 2011 Overland. Yesterday, our passenger side interior courtesy bulb turned on and will not turn off either. Note this is not the light you can turn on separately. After the usual check that all the doors and back lift gate/glass are shut (multiple times), and restarting it multiple times as well, we disconnected the ever so easy to access battery for 10 minutes to no avail. The only thing that works is waiting for the retained accessory period to expire so at least it isn't continuously draining the battery. However, as soon as we unlock truck ,when the other lights dim this one stays on. Anybody figure out a fix?

Thanks!

did you try pushing the button to the right of your tailgate open button? this turns on a different passenger done light than pushing on the lense. there are 2 passenger lights right next to each other with different switches.

You do realize that you can turn on either light seperately. The Map light, which is more directed into your lap has a physical button you push to turn it on and off. The other light is the courtesy lamp that comes on when you open or close a door, this light can be independantly turned on and off by pushing on the plastic cover for the light.

Thank you all very much! Boy, do I need new glasses. That is indeed what it was. I must had inadvertently hit it when I pressed the door lift gate button beside the passenger dome light button. :o Happily we won't be ringing in the New Year with a dealer visit for a new BCM.

My husband said, "I'm man enough to admit... that my wife goofed up."

We just brought our '14 Overland home today, and I had the same thing happen and was freaking out. Searched and found this thread and that was the issue... I didn't realize there were 2 ways to turn on those lights.... boy I have a lot of reading to do!

They are not the same lights. The switches on the overhead console turn on the map light which is a bulb in the front end of the light panels. This light has a lens that directs the light towards your/passenger lap as to create minimal blinding. If you push the light panel back section, it will turn on the courtesy light which is a more spread type of illumination pattern.

OK... Not the same lights, but in the same general vicinity...
