Wheel size question

I need to buy a second set of rims so I can have a winter set. Tirerack only recommends 18"s. I would prefer to go smaller with a fatter tire to save money. Will a smaller rim work on this truck or is the minimum 18", to clear the breaks?

Re: Wheel size question

The answer to your question is dependent on what version of the JGC you have. Only the lowest trim level can take 17" wheels. The reason? The size of the brakes. Go with the 18" wheels and you can be certain that you'll have good clearance from the "stoppers" and more than adequate tire to do the job.

What he said.

If you have an Americas Tire/Discount Tire in the area, check them out as well, they have quite a few wheels that fit the 14, from plain to not too shabby.

I called quadratech and the sales consultant said that their 17" steel wheels will fit. So I think I'll go that route. The set is only like 398. I'm going to put 265/70/17 tires on them. I bumped up the side wall to make up the inch from smaller rim diameter.

If you have the diesel it has the HD brakes on all trim levels, if you want to run 17's you will have to find the right off set to clear the brakes

Same for Hemi. Only the V6 can use 17 in wheels.

Re: Wheel size question

For a winter tire you DO NOT want to go with a fatter tire. Skinny is better.
Reason, a wider tire will float on top of snow and slush.
A skinnier tire will get down to the road surface and grip much better.
