Remove shift knob in 2014

I want to wire my radar detector and use the power from the lighter in the center console. I can't figure out how to remove the shift knob from the 2014 to take out the center console.

Any suggestions?

You need to pop it off. Just about half of it comes off and there is a torx head that secures it to the shifter shaft. There are 3 clips that hold the top on with a power feed to the lit shifter. Note u will need to disconnect the battery or u will get a service shifter error in the cluster and it won't light up. Took mine off to fix a minor bsr that was driving me nuts

I've had mine off a half dozen times already without disconnecting the battery. The error light on the dash goes away immediately after putting it back together. Of course, you won't get any error lights if you don't turn the ignition on while you've got it apart. Either way, there's no problem.

I took my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit to Best Buy mobile to install the Escort SmartCord mute button right below the shifter. So, now I have the same "Service Shifter" error message and no lights on the shifter when the Jeep is running. Is there a way to reset it or is this now a dealer service issue? Thanks for the help.

Are the wires in the console the easiest to get to? I feel like there has got to be other live wires that a radar detector could be tapped into instead. Just guessing here though.. I have a passport 8500 xi and I'd like to put it in my 14 GC, but I'm wondering if I could tap into the wires by the foot well? Any thoughts?
