Can the Collision Avoidance system be added to a 2014 Limited

I'm curious if anyone has done this, or attempted this.

I really would like to get this feature added if possible.

It probably "could", but the reprogramming and additional controllers to achieve this would probably be cost prohibitive.

I agree. I'm sure with the new CANBUS electrical architecture if it could be added at all it would have to be done by a dealer in order to get the programming right, and I doubt any of them would even do it because they would then be assuming the liability (of an improper installation should it fail and cause an accident). If you really want it, best bet would be to work a trade in deal on your Limited with the Houston or D.C. dealerships who have given JG members such great deals and simply get an Overland or Summit with that feature on it.

I would do it through a dealer. But good point about liability, they probably wouldn't do it, even if it was easy.

I bet it would cost me $10K to trade. So I'd be willing to pay up to $3-4K to get it done.

It doesn't need to be an overland or summit. I could have got it on the Limited. But it was gonna cost $4500.00 because of other unrelated but required upgrades.

I don't think it would cost you near $10K to do a trade of your Limited for an Overland with the ACC (or a Limited with it) - but you'll never know until you look into it and crunch the actual numbers. It'll only cost you more to trade the longer you wait, and that's also time you could be driving a vehicle optioned out the way you really want.

He could be underwater on this car. That's where he is getting the 10K difference. Meaning he owes $30K and trade in is $20K (just an example)

The difference between my Limited 8.4AN and an Overland with Technology is $9K (MSRP). I'm sure I'd lose over $3K on a trade in. At least.

It would be more truck than just ACC.

The MSRP price of ordering that option on a new base Limited has gone up to $6000.00

If I already had the Lux option then the difference would not be so big. And if I already had ordered the Lux option I would have added the technology option in the first place because that option itself is not that huge.

It's only $2K. I'd get out cheap if I could add it now for even $4k.

And my Limited is Perfect :)

It's really nothing todo with loans. I did 0% finance and I could pay that off tomorrow.

I'd effectively lose that. But I wouldn't care.

But the truck was "used" the day I drove it away. That cost something (regardless of how it's paid for).

My guess is, I'd lose $5k. But maybe if I did "Trade Up" that might be a lower loss. But I'd have to lose at least $3K.

Who would buy a used 2013 for only $3K off.

Okay...I just need to point this out because I see this error quite a bit. There is no such thing as "CANBUS" -- it's also not an electrical architecture. It's CAN bus -- two words. CAN stands for Controller Area Network. And, it's a bus specification for communication between modules (controllers). That's all it is--it is not a broad-based electrical specification for vehicles either. It's also not "new"...it's been around in various makes and models since 2003, and was mandated in the U.S. for all vehicles (at the diagnostic level) in 2008.

Anyway...just had to say it because I see far too much of that "CANBUS" term, which is meaningless.

it is not going to be feasible even though it is possible. It is possible because they install it in other Jeeps. Not feasible because it will involve lots of down time, wiring and components.

I am having a hard time getting reliable information if the ABS control module is the only part needed to add STOP to a 2014 Jeep that already came from factory with ACC. Compared to say, a 2013 with ACC the 2014 ACC already has more components such as a forward camera in the rearview mirror, which I have. But I don't have the STOP feature which was introduced in July.

Trade up your car, if you really want the feature.

Re: Can the Collision Avoidance system be added to a 2014 Limited

Very close to buying a Limited so I have been doing a lot of research on financing options and in one of the articles I read they said that you really need to put 20% down because once you drive it off the lot the value goes down by about that much so they say if you have a smaller down payment you are under water on day one.

I am not a car dealer but I would think that a used 2013 would have to come down close to that percentage to make it possible to resell it as the dealer has to be able to make money on it and I doubt that any dealer would want to do some work on a vehicle and then just mark it up 10 percent.

Re: Can the Collision Avoidance system be added to a 2014 Limited

I believe the collision avoidance option requires the forward facing radar in the front facia as it comes with the technology group. If your Jeep doesn't have that I'm thinking you're looking at big bucks to add all that stuff.

Having said all that the system saved me from a sure rear end accident (my bad) so I'd never be without it again unless I didn't have a choice. Good luck with whatever you choose.
