We are getting ripped off

When comparing the MSRP prices to upgrade from the 3.6L V6 with the 845RE transmission to the 5.7L V8 with the 8HP70 transmission among various Chrysler vehicles I discovered something depressing. The prices are as follows:

Ram 1500 $1150
Chrysler 300C $2200
Dodge Durango $2795
Jeep Grand Cherokee $3195

I find it impossible to believe that it costs $2045 more to put a Hemi into a Jeep than a Ram. This is Chrysler fleecing its Jeep customers.

No...you're not being targeted for a ripoff. There are a lot of variables involved in that...including what's called "take rate"--or the number of buyers opting for the engine. A smaller take rate often equates to a higher price as economies of scale take over. Additionally, Chrysler may allocate themselves to build a given number of 5.7 engines. If the take rate is higher for one model than another, prices may rise on the one with the lower rate to offset production changes or even to potentially alter the overall take rate itself.

This is a total SWAG, but it might have to do with CAFE fleet mileage requirements, possibly a way to moderate the 5.7L usage in the heaviest/lowest MPG vehicle.

That would have been my guess, but its still a lot of money.

I think it's pure marketing/production related. A year ago Jeep was giving $1500 rebates on V8s.

I received a $1500 rebate on my 14 Limited V8 which was a mid Sept build. Price went up during the period btwn order and delivery but my order was price protected.

Maybe the other options that come standard with the hemi such as heavy duty brakes, electronic limited slip, dual exhaust, etc?
The add-ons for the GC may be standard with the others?

The heavy duty brakes come with the towing package, you already have dual exhaust on the limited no matter what engine, and to get the limited slip you have to get the off road adventure 2 package.

No one is forcing the consumer to purchase anything you don't want!
If you feel that you're being ripped off, go buy the competitors product.

No one is forcing me to do anything and I will buy one eventually but it is nice to know that others get essentially the same upgrade for much less.
