Unless you have over 1,000 miles on your Cherokee your software is still adjusting to your driving style and you have nothing to talk about. Chrysler never should have announced that the reason they delayed the release of the Cherokee was due to a software adjustment. Now everyone is looking for the boogie man.

Yes my 14 has hard shifts. I have 7100 miles. The did a tsb transmission enhancement in october. I would say it went on a scale from 1 to 10 from a 5 to a 7. I bought it in the other day for a recall and thought there was another transmission tsb but he said it doesn't relate to my vehicle. He said the 8 cylinder has what u call skip a gear or some crap where it is "normal". Anyway if u didnt get the transmission tsb go get it done. My transmission only does this about once a week now where before it was daily. Tsb 11-007-13 rev b

I don't think we are talking about the same vehicle. This is the 2014 Cherokee thread not the Grand Cherokee.

Re: Transmission problems

I notice hard shifts in the morning, especially when it is cold. The first time it goes through the gears on a cold morning, it shifts at unusually high RPM and roughly (under slow acceleration). After it goes through the gears a couple of times the problem goes completely away and it shifts as smooth as silk...

Not looking for a boogie man at all. I just want to make sure mines the same as everyone else. Its not a symptom of over analyzing things. Its a noticeable thid in the range of gears 1-5. It seems downshifting is the worse but going from 1 to 2 there is a noticeable gap in acceleration and then you can feel it shift and haul

Re: Transmission problems

The manual states that for the first several hundred miles the transmission is self-calibrating, and may be abrupt.

Refer to page 396 in the Owner's Manual:
The electronically-controlled transmission provides a
precise shift schedule. The transmission electronics are
self-calibrating; therefore, the first few shifts on a new
vehicle may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normal
condition, and precision shifts will develop within a few
hundred miles (kilometers).

Date: November 14, 2013.

SUBJECT:
Transmission Shift Enhancements - Adaptation Learn Procedure
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves performing a subjectivity shift quality rating and performing the
transmission adaptation learn procedure if required.
MODELS:
2014 KL Cherokee
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 948TE (9-Speed Automatic
Transmission - Sales Codes DFJ or DFH).
DISCUSSION:
The 948TE automatic transmission uses a sophisticated shift algorithm that includes
learned information so that the shift quality remains excellent even as the transmission
wears. This learned information is recorded in memory cells referred to “Adaptation
Memory Cells”. Each applied clutch records the amount of time it takes to fill the clutch
(Fast Filling Counter/Filling Time) and the amount of pressure (Filling Counter/Filling
Pressure). The adaptation memory cells are set to zero (0) on every new transmission
(new in vehicle and/or replaced for service) and when the transmission control module is
replaced for service. In addition, the adaptation memory cells are set to zero (0) anytime
the transmission control module is flashed, and when the transmission control module
adaptation memory cells are cleared using the wiTECH diagnostic scan tool (Quick
Learn/Valve Body Solenoid Learn). Until the adaptation has been learned/relearned, the
transmission shift quality may not meet the customers expectations.

Excellent information. I didnt doubt the user who said its self learning. I went from a basic wrangler to this tech beast. Never had a learning tranny before. Im at 400 miles now. The upshifts are noticeably smoother. Down shifts still hard but i feel like its smoothing out. The car as a whole feels like its really coming together smooth. Love it.

If anyones keeping track first full tank i got 19.3 mph. 50/50 hwy city. Though part of that was the engine break in with the called for throttling.

What part of the country....or country for that matter....are you in? Cold weather can have an effect on fuel mileage.

Midwest. And its been damn cold here lately!

It may have been in a different thread, but no one had experienced 9th gear yet. On a road trip going 80+ MPH and after the breakin period the car did finally shift into 9th. It doesn't seem like this gear will get much use cause it didn't go into 9th often.
