Uconnect access not available in canada?

Wondering if anyone has any further info on when uconnect will be available to us in canada. I've gone to the play store and it won't give me the option to load it. I really want to use my messaging and other functions.

Thanks

Adam

I'm afraid you will be waiting a long time. Not in the foreseeable future.

Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Canada Customer Assistance Center
regarding your 2013 Ram 1500
We are sorry to learn of your disappointment regarding UConnect Access
not being available in Canada.

Uconnect Access was launched in the US market as an available feature on
certain 2013-2014 model year vehicles. This service, which is only
available in the US market, provides properly equipped vehicles with
services such as 9-1-1 Call, Roadside Assistance and other remote
features either through an embedded cellular or synchronized Smartphone
connection.

Uconnect Access in not available is Canada due to numerous obstacles
that currently prevent the Canadian launch of Uconnect Access including
the underlying cellular technology in Canada.

While these new Uconnect Access services are not available in Canada,
existing Uconnect entertainment, phone, navigation and voice command
features continue to be offered.

While we regret that we cannot provide a more favourable reply, we
appreciate you sharing your concerns with us.

Well doesn't that just bite donkeys.
Thanks for the heads up BossHoss

Looks like they are starting to get there, still a few years away I'm sure...

Good thing they don't make phones or they'd be out of business for good. I guess they've never heard of GSM phones used around the world. Chrysler - you are behind, not the cell phone networks in Canada. Sure, 5 of 7 major networks in the US use the old CDMA, but does that mean Chrysler can't provide options. I wonder what they will do in the rest of the world? Tell them they have to become outdated and use CDMA? What happens if their competitors offer the service around the world on GSM and they don't? Not good planning on their part at all.

I bought my second iPad in the US earlier this year. I bought it with an AT&T GSM card. Cross the border back into Canada and I simply pop out the AT&T card and insert my Bell Canada MicroSim - and away I go. Same with my first iPad that I bought 3.5 years ago - have Canadian and US cards.

Oh, our Rogers GSM cell phone worked find with our Ford Flex and the emergency dialling in the event of an accident.

What am I missing that supports Chrysler's point of view on this?

There are three main suppliers - Telus, Bell and Rogers.

GM's OnStar (which I had in my Tahoe) had no problems and it would work with Bell. My Flex worked with Bell.

I'll just have to make do with my iPad.

BF, lets also keep in mine that there is an internal mindset in Chrysler that is annoying. Why did Canadian management opt out of the tracking system. Starts to make us feel second class.

I haven't purchased a non-D3 vehicle since the early 1980s (and that company (Volvo) ended up as a D3 company for some time. If I suddenly get an "inferior" feeling that gets too annoying, then next time around I start looking at Honda, Lexus and others.

I was anticipating my next trade would be my T&C for a fully loaded Durango. Did a build and price in Canada and found a $9,000 difference in price from a US build and price. Don't think that isn't frustrating.

If I look at an iPad Air the US price for a 64GB 4G/LTE model is $829. The price in Canada for the same unit is $849 - only 2.4% more.

The $9k difference (approx) for the Durango is ABOUT 18%. As long as this exists there won't be a Durango in my driveway. Clearly someone "up there" thinks they can charge what the market will bear. Well, they can count me out.

The Cherokee was very reasonably priced given the FX rate at the time I purchased. Had there been an 18% difference we wouldn't have a Limited sitting in the garage now.

BTW, GM annoyed the hell out of me (and my GM purchases were on the employee plan through my brother) with its OnStar pricing. On one occasion they called and wanted to know why I was not renewing. I told them i wasn't a fool and to check the FX rates and then explain why the price in Canada was 50% more than in the US. I was transferred to the "deals" desk and ended up with a price less than the US - and that continued as long as I had the Tahoe. Maybe too many Canadians are wimps and put up with this kind of thing. I'm not one of them.

Excellent question....perhaps for uConnect customer service. In the US, unit specific registration is required to activate, and a trial period or paid $ubscription must be maintained for the required cell and related $ervices.
