Fuel Additive

Been poking around online looking for a fuel additive to combat winter and crap diesel.

Happened upon this stuff:

Winter Additive
Normal Additive

Gets rave reviews from the powerstroke/etc groups and a bottle treats ~500 gallons(125 for the winter stuff). Even better is they are normally ~$12 each but they are deeply discounted due to the holidays. Also found a coupon code for an extra 10% off (DIESEL10). Each bottle came to $4.03. At that price I picked up a couple of winter additive and a couple of normal.

Just saw 15% off code(FRIDAY) and free shipping over $50.

Re: Fuel Additive

Standyne is the only fuel treatment I used and I didn't use it each tank full but maybe ever 5-6 tank full. I don't live north where the temps cause fuel gel but if I did I would sure consider the products referenced...

At what temp does #2 start to have issues? Just got back from MN/SD and they have #1 adjacent to #2 so you can mix your own. Have not seen #1 here in OH.

About -20F per the owners manual

All are ULSD, #1 will really kill your MPG as it is designed for arctic like temperatures which the lower 48 rarely have to worry about.

This is why I got the winter blend stuff. I will be getting #2 and then add this stuff which will help in preventing the diesel from turning in gel and help counter the loss in MPG.

It says mix below +20. So I think the additive may be a good idea if only #2 is available.

I found some good info. Apparently "OPTI-LUBE XPD" is some of the best stuff to get for those of us in areas with questionable diesel fuels.

Just ordered a gallon of "OPTI-LUBE XPD". It excels at both fuel economy, increasing cetane rating and does very well on the wear/score test (HFRR).
