Tire rotation myself.
 
I have the 20" overland wheels. I would like to rotate them myself because I don't want any marks on my wheels or lug nut areas. My 2011 limited was marked around the lugs looked like crap IMO.
I only have a floor jack and two jack stands. Is there a way I can do this safely and easily? It was a cinch back when I had my solid axle JGC.

I needed 2 jacks and 2 jackstands and my dad's help to do the tire rotation per the manual instructions (with the crisscrossing of 2 of the tires).

Well that stinks. I suppose I could goto harbor freight and buy a couple more floor jacks :)

set park brake. loosen but do not remove all wheel nuts.

lift LF corner. install jack stand. remove LF wheel.

lift RR corner. install jack stand. remove RR wheel. install wheel removed from LF. remove jack stand and lower RR corner.

lift LR corner. install jack stand. remove LR wheel and install on LF. remove jack stand from LF and lower LF corner.

lift RF corner. install jack stand. remove RF wheel and install on LR. remove jack stand from LR and lower LR corner.

install wheel removed from RR to RF. remove jack stand from RF and lower RF corner.

torque all lug nuts to spec. (100 +/- 15 ft/lbs)

NOTE: the trick is to install jack stands on lower control arms, as close to the wheel as possible and just high enough for the wheel to be off the ground.

Any suggestion on where to have the air suspension other than locked.

never thought of the air suspension.
from FSM:

The air suspension system will auto-disable when lifted on a frame hoist, or when jacking one corner of the vehicle. The air suspension may attempt to change height slightly prior to switching to auto-disable. A manual disable is also available by pressing the “Up” and “Down” switches of the terrain select switch simultaneously for more that 5 seconds. The air suspension system will return to normal operation when the vehicle speed reaches 25 kph (15 mph).


also, as an added safety measure, you might want to chock the wheels that will be in contact with the ground.

Personally, I'd find a trusted indy shop that does work on aftermarket wheels and tell them your concerns. i'd be surprised if they don't get you in and out with no probs...

I use the spare to help when rotating tires. Jack up a position, remove the wheel, bolt on the spare with two lugnuts, remove the jack.
Move to the second postion, jack it up, remove the wheel and replace with the wheel taken from the first. Continue until finished and replace the spare.

Place your two jack stands on the lower control arms in the front and use a floor jack with a 4x4 on it to lift the rear by the rear cradle/subframe where the rear axle is. Thats how I did my wife's, it took a few tries to get the front set correctly and get everuthing up in the air but that is how I did it. Honestly though you are better off going to sears or somewhere and getting 2 more jack stands. Put all 4 along the pinch welds along the side of the jeep. I wouldnt go to harbor freight to get something that if it fails could kill me but thats just me. Sockets? Sure, jack otlr jack stands? No...

They ARE a lot cheaper than paint touchups or lifting the vehicle off your leg.

While out shopping, pick up a set of the solid steel wheel nuts/fasteners. Most Discount Tire places have a reasonable selection cheap or will order them for you--such as nice black chrome ones.

If you have the RA4 radio you can go into through the radio and disable the air-suspension to jack the vehicle. Like someone else mentioned...just use your spare tire, take the first tire off then place the spare on the vehicle and the tire that you just took off rotate it to the location in accordance with the rotation pattern found in the owners manual. This will help you become fimiliar with the spare using it in a controled environment like your gargage...(as opposed to along a highway with vehicles rolling by at 70MPH)...incase you would need to use it in the future. Also ensure you apply the parking brake and use a block of wood/brick or something to ensure the vehicle doesn't roll while jacking. I wouldn't use the jack stands unless you know where to place them as you can cause damage to the vehicle if improperly placed not to mention it could fall. Hope this helps.:thumbsup:

Thank you Wk2overlandII, I think I'll do the rotation that way. Years ago I had a 2003 Overland and I did the five tire rotation so this is similar.
