When to NOT use ECO Mode

I have a 2014 JGC Limited 4x4 and I am just curious if there are times I should NOT have ECO Mode on in order to give me better MPG?

Leave it in Eco if you want the best mileage. I dont know if you have a 6-8 cylinder but you'll wind up better in Eco. If you want a little more spirited driving from time to time try the sport mode.

since I put my exhaust on recently and I hated hearing the MDS kick on, so I figured I would shut it off. I did and I love the way the jeep drives with the eco off in comparison to it on. the motor just feels like its running smoother. and with it off, I haven't noticed much of a drop off in my MPG.

for how much better the truck sounds, feels and reacts with eco off, im going to keep it off. It out ways the MPG loss.

i would think it depends on where and how you drive. Im pretty sure my wife does better with it off. But we are on long island, with a million stops to get anywhere, and all the mom doing the 0-40 mph drag race from light to light. She gives it gas, annoyed it didn't do what she wanted, gives it more, downshifts, and now revs up higher than it would have.

Off most of the time. The exception is driving on the highway at 55mph or higher. My experience was the same as some others, once I hit around 5000 miles I started getting a ruhmbling noise in what had been a very quiet car. The dealer confirmed that it was in fact the MDS kicking in. They are set to kick in at speeds in the low 20's. In spite of the 8speed, you just can't properly push a 5000 pound vehicle on 4 cylinders.

With Eco off the Jeep is quiet and responsive. I don't pay much attention to mileage, so I have no idea what impact this has, and I don't gara. My Jeep performs, quietly. :)

Is that what that is Bill? I've noticed a slight rumble at low speeds which seemed to always go away when a little extra push on the accelerator, but didn't put together it was the MDS kicking in.

The evidence, and other members seem to confirm this. Your description is right on. The tech told me that one of the Dodge products had it set so low that customer complaints forced them to raise it, but not enough.

Did you always have it, or did it start after you had some miles on your Jeep?

I have almost seven thousand miles on my 14 v8 and I don't hear any rumbling noise. I never turn the Eco mode off.Mine is quite spirited with it on.

I don't really hear it, but feel something just isn't right. Don't get my wrong, the vehicle runs smooth, but I have noticed something slightly off at times that matches what Bill was talking about.

My wife gives me so much crap talking about I'm over sensitive to little things on the car which is why I thought nothing of this, but now I know I'm not crazy when others feel it too.

Confirming a glitch with your Jeep does not preclude you from being crazy. I'm sure that won't fly with your wife, and it won't fly here. :p

That may be true, but how many years did people drive around with 6000 pound suburbans with 150 hp. Your hemi puts out 180ish hp on 4 cylinders. Its amazing to see how far we have come...
My ram kicks the mds on at as little as 10 mph, you can't really tell though until you go around 30 or so mph.

At what rpm? And with how much torque?

Maybe the motor can produce 360 HP, it only reaches that peak at a certain rpm, probably not at 1500.
