Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Hi all,

I'm considering purchasing the Cherokee for towing a camper. I would need to install a trailer brake controller. On the Grand Cherokee, I know there is a small port (not the OBDII port) under the dash (driver's side footwell) where a trailer brake controller would plug into to avoid having to cut wires.

Can anyone confirm that this port exists on the Cherokee? Has anyone installed a TBC on their Cherokee yet?

Thanks
Matt

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

I have not found one yet. I need a brake controller for my small camper trailer. Mainly for off-road use and I have been looking. Owners manual is less than useless and I can not find any sites that have instructions for installing one yet.

The fact that they went to the trouble of including a 7 pin connector would lead me to believe they would include the TBC connector as well, just like the Grand Cherokee. Have you spoken to the dealer/service/corporate? That would be my next approach.

Not yet. I did dig around under the dash a bit and did not see an open connector anywhere.

Just went and looked. No pigtail or directions. I looked in the spare tire location and every other knook I could think of as well.

Yes it does. It was a custom order.

This is a Cherokee and not a Grand. it may be different even though it has the 7 way plug.

Yes cherokee, jeep.com says 4500 lb. GW tr/limit. Here in Pa. any trailer over 3000 lb. GW has to have tr/brakes.
So i agree with you and Matticus, 7 way = TBC

Maybe the pigtail bag was overlooked on the line.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Let me know if it takes the same connector as the GC. I have the Prodigy connector that has the plugs on both ends so no splicing. On the GC it plugged under the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

Now that I know what to look for, I will crawl back under the dash and see if I can find anything.
