2014 Cherokee in Ship Mode?

I took my brand new (524 miles) Cherokee Limited for service today for two reasons; a) Check engine light was on and b) Heater fan would not come on. I was advised that these two issues were due to the fact that the car was still in "ship mode" vs. "customer mode". Apparently, the dealer is supposed to put the car in customer mode as part of the prep process. I did not see anything in the display indicating the car was in ship mode, so I was very surprised when I heard this was the cause. I assume I am being given the straight scoop on this...anyone else ever hear of this happening?

So did you get it out of "ship" mode now?

From what I read it's really a simple process of pressing the Enter (round button) and the defrost button for about 5 seconds and you can toggle the mode......

Yes, the servicing dealer put the car into "customer mode" and things appear to be working. No engine light and heater fan works.

Some times the service dept misses things. When I checked the tire pressure all four tire were at 48 pounds. Service adjusted to 35 pounds which is where is they are supposed to be. 48 pounds is for lot storage.

Ha. That's about the extent of it for now! It was it a coincidence that I came across this thread only a day after having read about this procedure on another one somewhere else!

Re: 2014 Cherokee in Ship Mode?

Quick Update: The good news is that I haven't seen the check engine light come back on, but the heater fan problem is still there. Very strange...I started the car and let it idle in the driveway for a good five minutes or so and the heater fan finally came on. Later in the day, I went for a drive and the heater never came on. When I returned home, as I was making the right turn into my driveway, the fan came on for about 2 seconds and then stopped. I sat in the car and the fan never came back on. Tried manually adjusting the fan....nothing. I hit the defrost button to see if it would work and the fan came on. After that, the heater fan worked in auto and manual modes. It may be premature, but I am already starting to research the NJ lemon law just in case. It's a shame because I really like the car, but this is a $35,000+ vehicle and I should not have to be wasting my time dealing with things like this....this isn't feeling right. Will go back to the dealer tomorrow for more diagnosis.

B6horn, i doubt your jeep was in shipping mode. battery warning lamp flashes while in shipping mode. i'm pretty sure you would have noticed that. several other electrical features are also inop while in shipping mode but the blower motor is not one of them. it should operate regardless of which mode BCM is in.
best have them diagnose it properly.
good luck and please update with results, thanks.

Re: 2014 Cherokee in Ship Mode?

Thank you for the input. I have to say that I was a bit skeptical about the ship mode explanation and was wondering why that would cause the ck engine light to go on. Now I am curious as to how they corrected the engine light if being in ship mode was not the issue. Will post an update as soon as I have new info.

Update #2: Still having issues with blower not operating properly. Came on after 40 minute drive this morning (upper 20s/low 30s outside temp). Check engine light has reappeared also. Took the car back to the dealer and the technician told me he is getting codes that relate to the blower circuit/module. He also said that the ck engine light is on that same circuit. He is going to reach out to Chrysler’s technical team for advice before replacing parts that may or may not correct the problem. I was given a Chrysler case number by the service advisor in the event that I need to speak with someone about the problem. Service expects to have an answer in a day or two. So much for the original Ship Mode diagnosis.

Re: 2014 Cherokee in Ship Mode?

Update #3: Worked with the dealer's service manager and he had me drop off the car off on 12/18 and leave it. Gave me a loaner at no charge. Spoke with him this afternoon and he said that the blower module and blower fan had to be replaced. They are currently waiting for the blower fan. He told me that the check engine light is on the same circuit as the blower, so the issue with the module is causing the light to go on. When I took it in on 12/18, I also made him aware of the fact that the collision warning system is not working. No matter how I have it set (near or far), it never gives a warning, even if I rapidly approach a car at a stop light. They are looking into that also. So far, my experience with the new Cherokee has been a big disappointment.
