2014 compared to 2011

I am trying to decide whether to buy a new 2014 Grand Cherokee or save some money and buy a used 2011 or 2012. Except for the ZF 8 speed auto, mechanically the 2014 looks the same as the 2011-2013 models. For those of you who moved up to a 2014 from the 2011+ models, did you find the 2014 is significantly better?

I think the general consensus from the people that have made the switch from a 12/13 to a 14 is that they are happy they did. I think at the end of the day it comes down to your financial situation and the cost of the 12 vs the 14. I decided to save for another 6 months and get a new 12 vs buying a used 12/13. The new trans, interior, ext really make the 14 a nice upgrade IMHO.

I would probably trade for the Diesel, I've done that before. Otherwise, no...

I'd be waiting for the 2017. It might have a 9.4" touch screen. Never know. ;)

Oh and I need to throw this out there: The Chrysler 8 Speed isn't exactly the same as the ZF, so I call it a Chrysler transmission. Parts don't even interchange between the two.

Not just the 8spd but the new uconnect is also the other big improvement. Once you work through some of the software glitches it really is a great system, so consider that also when deciding. I had researched the GC for months and was poised to buy a 13 last fall but then read about the new 8spd and uconnect in the 14 and forced myself to wait the 4-5 more months and glad I did. I think it does come down to money like someone else mentioned, the 11-13 are still great jeeps but if you can afford a little bit more go for the 14.

As much as I have thought about trading up, the 2017 is just 30 months away. 2.5 years. :-)

I think the 2014 is really ugly.

This is true. I wonder how soon it will be until *I* see one though?

Nope... it's not ready yet. Work on it started years ago though.

Are we getting close? Yup... very close.

I thought maybe you had seen a rendering. We aren't that far away from the all new design launch at all...
The WK2 is going to hard to be in the sense of aesthetics. In my book from a design standpoint they set the bar real high with the 2011-2016.

I think it's time Milous and Scott make a 2017 thread haha.

Re: 2014 compared to 2011

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I have two old cars, so waiting for 2017 is probably too long. Plus, my experience with new designs have never been good. IMHO it takes car manufacturers a few years to sort out new technology, and in the meantime, owners need to put up with recalls or in some cases, defects that manufacturers refuse to fix at their cost.

Re: 2014 compared to 2011

I went from a 2011 Overland to a 2014 Summit and have absolutely zero regrets. The new 8 Speed transmission allows for much smoother shifting and when paired with the V8 it seems to move the WK2 along better then it did in my '11. The new 8.4" uconnect is awesome (I have a year build so I didn't run into many of the Uconnect issues that others did) and overall I feel that the fit and finish is better ad more refined then in my '11.

I loved my '11 but I love my '14 even more.
