Best OE replacement panel air filter

Ive been running a K&N filter in the factory air box since i bought the jeep. After years of bad mpgs and bad reviews ive decided to get rid of it and try a dry filter. What is the best air filter the WONT. Reduce mpgs but will increase them and will be reusable? Amsoil? Afe? Fram lol?

Stock 4.7L stock air box stock tb removed the factory air tubes from tb to air box and replaced with k&n air tube/plenum. Thats it.

Maybe try a Mopar OEM filter to see how that effects your mileage?

May be more than just the air filter dropping the MPG: old plugs, EGR, etc./etc.

I last did plugs about 50k ago so i might try changing them and the egr valve. Im nit really sure what other tune up items might help my mpgs. Im putting a stock exhaust back on as well. I know im not too far off on mpgs because other 4.7 owners are very close these engines just suck on gas.

My K&N filter actually improved my mileage on my WK Hemi, but I regularly clean/oil it according to the specs. Have you been cleaning it/oiling it according to the manual? If not, there's your issue. Common problems of K&N complainers are under-cleaning and over-oiling, or just never doing either.

I bought one of these on ebay, it was $5 + $20 shipping :)

strange though, the one I got was "Pro dry" not "oiled", perhaps their dry filter is discontinued now. I know it was a biatch to install.

I also have a K&N drop in on my 2008 4.7. It's been fantastic. Dealer approved it for use and they check it at every service stop. It runs and
"feels" just like stock, just sounds better at full throttle and I can clean and reuse it. If I wasn't running that, it would be a stock Mopar filter.

Re: Best OE replacement panel air filter

Hey there,

I'm doing 13.5mpg (17L/100km) city and 22mpg (10.5L/100km) highway on my 2006 JGC 4.7, how about you?

I notice my mpg did go better for a while when I changed air filters last spring, but only used a cheap Fram air filter...

Also, my mpg go down in the winter months by at least 10-20% due to the different type of gasoline or additives they put in...

My last sparkplug change was 21,500 miles ago...

Anyone know how much a new EGR valve change including labour costs? Or do they just clean it? I think the last time I asked about this the dealer told me why do you want to change it, is your engine light on or are you getting any codes?

I will look into buying a K&N Drop in filter or Stock Mopar air filter next.

These are the 3 available EGR Valves on rockauto, Mopar one is missing picture, anyone know why the standard one costs 3 times less than the others? Which would you get? Do you also need to buy the EGR valve?

The K&N filter looks right. It's the one I have, but note that it's $38.74 shipped on Amazon (Amazon.com: K&N 33-2233 High Performance Replacement Air Filter: Automotive).

The filter comes pre-oiled so you wont' need the charging kit right away but yea that's ONE OF the correct cleaning/charging kit CHOICES (note that the BETTER ONE is $12.22 shipped on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/99-5000-Aeroso...n+cleaning+kit)).

Also note that there are two different cleaning kits: one with the aerosol can and the other with drip fluid. IMHO the aerosol can is the way to go. Strangely enough, the aerosol can kit is also the cheaper of the two on Amazon...

I bought the OEM one because according to my research when I replaced mine, it was the best quality part. If memory serves, it was under $100 at my local dealer. You might also check J4J and use the site discount for a cheaper price. The OEM one comes with the new fiber gasket, but you also might want to pick up the rubber gasket for the other connection on the EGR. It's not included with the kit and is a separate part number. Often the rubber gasket gets torn/corroded either from normal wear/tear or during the removal/installation process. I think the gasket cost me $5 and was good for peace of mind, even though I was careful and didn't end up using it.
