Capless Fuel Door Opening Involuntarily on 2014 Grand Cherokee

Has anyone had an issue with their Capless Fuel door opening while driving? The dealership cannot seem to figure out what is making this happen.

I have not heard of that yet. I assume theres no chance its getting hit on your way into or out of car, e.g., confirmed closed when you start driving and at some point while still driving its open?

I had it happen to me twice when I first got the Jeep.
I figured I had just brushed the button while getting in. Hasn't happened since.

The button does have a very light touch.

If it is in the same location as in my '11 that would be your knee brushing against it when you get in the car. Happens to me often enough.

On the '14 the button is flush and just below the light switch, so you'd need a pretty bony knee to hit it.

When the door is closed, is it flush and well centered?
If you use a soft object [toothbrush rubber pick] can you pry the door and have it move?
Either of those could mean it isn't latching up well, and ride could jar it loose.

It also could be something flaked in the electric circuit, which very few dealerships are at all competent to troubleshoot.

Thank you for the responses the dealership checked and there appears to be similar complaints about the 2014 JGC. Hopefully they can get it fixed. I would not be surprised if a recall comes out soon regarding the gas door.

Never had this issue till I read this thread and then yesterday I saw the door open. I think I might have just bumped the button seeing that I didn't recently fuel up, but that was an odd occurrence.

Took a look this weekend and they must have spent all of about 1/2 Yuan on that latching mechanism. Non-adjustable hinge, tendency to be misaligned, and I can easily see how even the slightest issue with that little 0.0001 cent latch could allow the door to come open.
