Sound check for Mopar CAI with 5.7 Hemi

I have read numerous threads about the various CAI systems. But since I live in California I have to get a CARB-exempted system like the Mopar CAI. Note that K&N is not approved for CARB states like California.

There have been a few comments about the sound, but I would like to get more detailed feedback from the owners (Mopar only please). I had made some air system changes to my Corvette but didn't like the drone when cruising on the highway. If I were to install the Mopar CAI I want it to be a positive change!

Would you mind commenting on some scenarios below:
* Idle - No difference?
* 1000 - 2000 RPMs?
* 2000 - 3000 RPMs (easy acceleration)?
* 2000 - 3000 RPMs (hard acceleration)?
* Highway cruising (65 MPH < 2000 RPMs)?
* Highway cruising (2000+ RPMs) with MDS on?
* Highway cruising (2000+ RPMs) with MDS on?
* >3000 RPMs - Awesome?

I actually want the vehicle engine noise to remain quiet (like stock) except when accelerating hard. And a few more horses is always welcome!

Thanks, Jim

Mine is for sale(as soon as I get it posted) as we just traded for a diesel. Had it on our '13 hemi about 8k miles and can comment as follows.
Idle...you can hear it sucking a little more air...especially in the garage
Slightly more noise(deeper) in normal driving situations when giving it some throttle, but not "gettin" it
More noise, deeper tone when hard acceleration but still not hammering, with window down can hear good engine noises better
Normal cruising, you can't really hear it. My wife didn't know I put it on until she was getting on the highway, then she was like, whoa in a good way
Maybe a few butt dyno horsepower as it got up in the rpm range, almost like vvt kicks in and extra air helps it when mashing it
Depending on driving style(trying to be easy and normal driving) it gained about .5-1.0mpg...again depending on driving style, and that was mainly city. I think the wife gained a solid 1-1.5 on just a highway trip, but she forgot to calculate it until she ran around the city for a day. I tried to guess based on miles she drove, and what the gas cost on our bank statement, cuz of course she didn't get a receipt either to track gallons. A trip about 400 miles, she got about 21.
She never drove easy, but didn't mash everywhere, she's just always "got places to be" but trip computer overall said about 15.5mpg when I would check from time to time.
Install was easy, took me about an hour and half taking pics along the way, and detailing every nook and cranny as I took out the factory box cuz I'm one of those guys.

during normal driving and idle, it sounds quiet.. but during acceleration of any type it sounds much deeper and awesome... and under WOT it sounds so beast and angry!

no change with MDS ...

Re: Sound check for Mopar CAI with 5.7 Hemi

Thanks to people who have posted to this and other CAI threads! I ordered the Mopar CAI and finished installation this morning. As hoped, the engine remains quiet when idling and in low power situations. With moderate-to-hard acceleration the Hemi has an even deeper sound. And the throttle response seems better, but I have only driven forty miles so not conclusive.

Installation was straight-forward with only a couple minor challenges. I added Reflectix insulation as a heat shield for the heat shield. And used the insulation to reduce the opening around the tube through the metal heat shield. I checked the temperature immediately after highway driving, and both the filter side of the metal heat shield and air tube were just slightly warmer than the outside air.

I have attached a link to a photo of my modifications, and the resultant engine bay (Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum - WK2 Rover's Album: Accessorize! - Picture).

Link to engine sound with a video. A little bit of Hemi + CAI after going through the toll plaza. This was not full throttle, but enough to give me goose bumps!
