Re: major!!1
DEF is something you should be familiar with if you bought a diesel. You can Go to pep boys buy 2.5 gallons for $12 and put it in the small DEF filler neck next to your diesel gas filler neck, NOT in your gas filler neck. The dealer can do this very easily too. In the same menu as your battery voltage gauge is your diesel exhaust fluid gsige so you van keep an eye on it. It van take a couple days for the gauge to register full after you fill it. Also its possible the DEF warning just came on due to the other batt/charging issues. Tell the dealer to check your def gauge to be sure.

all the rest seems to be related to your battery or charging system amd should be under warranty. You didnt happen to use a traditional battery charger on your car for any reason did you? I believe the new GCs use AGM batteries that use a newer type of battery charger.

Re: major!!1
Of course I know what def is. And it is full. I watched the dealer fill the tank because I read this forum. I have not charged the battery at all. Like I said, 700 miles on the odometer. I expected better then this.

Re: major!!1
Well if you know def is full then perhaps you could have assumed the evic message about it was triggered by your battery trouble. Does 700 miles on it mean there was no chance you had to charge the battery from leaving headlights on or any number of other reasons??.

you are the one asking for help and you are the one that mentioned the def evic message without telling us you knew it was full. And saying it has 700 miles certainly doesnt rule out anything.

Re: major!!1
Think you are taking me the wrong way. Haha. I expected better then this from Jeep,, not you. Sorry if you took it that way. I am just baffled of what the problem could be. Sitting at a dealer now waiting for them to try to figure it out. I've read in the cummins forums of similar def issues but the battery saver mode and voltage issues are weird to me. When I turn the heat on the voltage jumps to 14 from 10. When heat off, it drops. So odd.

Re: major!!1
sounds like it could be a bad grounding (earth wire) to me - good luck - hopefully the dealer can get it sorted for you.

Re: major!!1
It can happen with any car, new does not mean you are safe from breakdowns. Nor are other brands proof against it, my wife had a BMW that died on the trip home from new car delivery. It does sound like a charging issue which should be an easy and non invasive fix. Its frustrating but you have no option other than fix it and move on so you may as well get past the venting and put on your happy face.

Re: major!!1
Voltage dropping and rising with load changes sounds to me like a bad battery.

It happens.

That's why new vehicles have warranties.

If you have battery issues it can, and will, manifest itself through any number of random trouble codes since all sensors and computers run on...wait for it...that battery that's having problems. If the system voltage drops, sensors and computers get confused.

Keep us posted on what the problem is, as well as the fix.

Re: major!!1
Problem solved! There was a short in a wire to the alternator. Was reading 10volts low. Caused all the crazy electrical stuff.

Re: major!!1
Perhaps it has something to do with this TSB?

Not sure if that would cause the exact issues you are experiencing, but might be something to ask your dealer about.
