2014 Cherokee updates. I'm new.

Hello all. We got a FWD V6 Latitude with 2000 miles. Last weekend, we went on a 250 mile trip from St. Louis to Hannibal, Mo. and got 30.0 mpg. I didn't realize it was in 8th gear til I read some posts on the forums. So today, I took her out and got up to about 80 mph down a hill. It hit 9th gear and was doing about 1600 rpm's at 80mph. I also ordered a Curt trailer hitch today at etrailer. It shouldn't be as exposed as the other hitches. We bought this Jeep to haul a trailer with good gas mileage when not towing. FWD does pretty good in the snow and the V6 has some grunt.

Im thinking about get a hitch too. Let us know how the curt hitch worked out. Also, r u installing it yourself or at the dealer?

It's getting installed at etrailer along with the wire harness for free. It was $193 and harness was $56. It's getting installed this Thursday. I'll update you then.

How do you know you were in 8th or 9th gear? I have not figured that out yet, as how to set it so it will show.

It won't show what gear you're in.Here's what I did. Although do so when no ones around. Find a large decline on the highway about a mile or so long. I put into manual mode and 9th. I then downshifted manually to find out what gear I was in. I went from 9 to 8 and nothing happened. I went from 8 to 7 and it downshifted. So I knew I was in 8th gear. The car seems to go in 8th most of the time. I put it back into ninth and hit 80 mph downhill. At about 80 it went into 9 th gear with no load on the engine. You'll know because it will be doing 1600 rpm's at around 80 mph. I probably won't do it again. I try not to be too reckless.

Pull the shifter to the left momentarily to put it in manual mode, displays your current gear instead of D.

See my post above, your method is unnecessary.

Great! With your instructions I just crossed into the manual mode usage.
Move the shifter to the left and see what gear you are in! Very cool feature.
Thanks
Next time on the highway at 70 will try and manually shift up to 8/9.

You cant manually upshift. All you can do is set the highest gear you want it to get to. It will use the selected gear and all the gears lower than it as it sees fit.

Thanks. I love your term "it as it sees fit". Its already telling me when I am over the speed limit and when to keep my hands on the wheel.
Why not!
