Oil and spark plug question.

Hey guys im planning to change my oil tomorow since the weather seems to be breaking, can anyone recomend a good synthetic oil and filter for my 4.7 that wont break the bank? Im on a tight budget. I might also pick up replacement spark plugs I think I might attempt to change them myself but Im hearing a lot of horror stories about the rear ones so not sure. Do I need any of that electronic gel stuff I see some people put on the plugs?

I just pulled up the plugs at the stores online site they range from 1.49 to over 9 bucks a plug, does it make much difference?

You can usually get the 5 qt jugs of M1 5-30 at Wal Mart for around 20 bucks. You're going to have to buy one extra quart of M1 5-30. Mobil 1 Oil filter M1-204 is what you need.

As far as spark plugs, stay OEM.

Part Number: SPRC12MCC4

do not buy anything but oem plugs. like joe said you can get M1 oil really cheap at walmart in the 5qt jugs, they also sell mopar filters for $5.

OK thanks, do I need to buy the plugs from the dealer? Autozone has a special a 5qt jug of m1 and m1 filter for 29.99 so I might go with that.

(NOTE: The 4.7L V–8 engine is equipped with copper core ground electrode spark plugs. They must be replaced with the same type/number spark plug as the original. If another spark plug is substituted, preignition will result.)

the part number is OEM P/N SPRC12MCC4 and the dealer has them pretty cheap. i got mine for like $1.40 each and they even had them gapped correctly for the engine.

Yeah go to the dealer for the spark plugs. They're Champions, cost me 1.64 each. They are easy to change if you have enough socket extensions. You'll need an extension with an adjustable neck. Two of them at the rear left hand side (as your facing the engine) are a pig, because there's two dipsticks and an oil line in the way, but with a bit of patience, you'll manage.

Re: Oil and spark plug question.

people will disagree but most of the synthetic oils are about the same. i've been on "Bob is the Oil Guy" website numerous times. Walmart carries Mobil 1, Valvoline Full Synthetic, and Pennzoil Platinum. They are all within $2-3 of each other for the 5 quart jug. I get whichever one is cheaper when it's time to change the oil. like somebody else posted, it's usually $20 for a 5 quart jug and $5 for the filter. that's better than autozone. the single quarts are like $5-6.

Re: Oil and spark plug question.

I was too lazy to drive to walmart so I spent 7.50 a quart for Mobile 1 now im kicking myself but oh well and I got a Bosch filter so it was like a 50 dollar oil change. Of course the cheap rachet set I used because I didnt feel like grabbing my other one snapped and the adapter clogged the oil pan I was using to collect the oil causing it to overflow now I have oil all over but I just finished up and degresed my engine, waiting 15min to hose it off so hopefully it should clean most of the oil off. Hopefully my MPG goes up now.

Don't buy the plugs at the dealer (they're usually marked up anywhere from $2-$4 per plug). Just get them from your local auto parts store...Champion RC12MCC4 (same exact plugs as the OEM plugs). Like everyone else said you can pick up 5W-30 Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum from Walmart for around $25 (5 quart jug plus a single quart). For your next oil change you might want to get Valvoline Synpower because they offer a 300,000 mile engine warranty if you use their oil and register on their website.

OK thanks I was actually looking at the Valvoline and I think it was like a dollar cheaper per quart but I heard a lot about the M1 so I decided to try that. I hope it helps my MPG.

Re: Oil and spark plug question.

Use the the champion copper core plugs, cant go wrong, pep boys for buck and half each, changing them is easy, use a little dielectric grease when you pop the coils back on, the passenger plug at the firewall is the hardest to get to, still a piece of cake compared to some cars I have worked on. I use royal purple on the oil and filter, pep boys has it on sale now, filter and 5 qts for 32$ and extra 6 bucks for the other qt. a good synthetic is cheap insurance, I like amsoil but you can't just pick it up anywhere if you need to top off. I use Lucas in my Harley's. I used to be a loyal amsoil follower, still think it's the best, and I would stick with it..... if it was easier to find.
