Spark plug change

Did a plug change a bit early -- 29,500 mi -- since I was having some lope in the idle and reduced MPG. Here's what I found (sorry, best I could do on my phone):

So, not exactly what I would have liked to find. Almost one on every cylinder that has quite a bit of oily residue on the threads. Think this means a valve cover gasket problem? "Normal"?

Here's how mine looked. Done at 30,810 mi.

Nice, but a pic of the firing ends would be better. Were the center electrodes rounded?

Don't have a pic of the firing ends but they weren't rounded. I was merely posting the pic for comparison on the threads with the OP.

The firing ends all look pretty much the same as the first pic. There is a little discoloration, but it's always on one side of the electrode and it's on pretty much all the plugs -- oily threads or not. The second pic is the worst one I have, none of the others look that bad. No electrode rounding on any of them.

Pull your hose off the intake manifold for the PCV valve. Is the hose interior and intake interior full of oil? (You will need a flashlight to see this) If so then thats where your oily plug is coming from. I put a catch can on mine and the oil going into the intake has been greatly reduced and my plugs are not oil covered anymore.;)

The OP's plugs look fine, to be honest. Yeah, there is a little residue but the can will alleviate that. The burn looks spot on with regards to the electrode.

Thanks, will check PCV. I'm not getting any blue exhaust smoke. As others on the Forum have reported, occasionally get a white smoke puff after parking on an incline and sitting a brief time before restarting. Hasn't done that in a while now.

Hell, I would have cleaned them with a wirebrush and some gasoline and called it good!! LOL

Those plug's don't look bad at all for the mileage, I wish I still had the pics of some of the plugs ive pulled off cars..
