part time 4wd doesnt engage

I can go from 2wd to 4wd full time, but part time 4wd does not seem to catch most of the time. Have most luck going from full time down and it will catch part time sometimes. Does this sound like a linkage adjustment?

Adjustment would certainly be the first thing to try!

1. Put in 4LO, both lever and actual transfer case

2. Loosen lock bolt on adjusting trunion. (13mm bolt)

3. Be sure rod slides freely

4. Verify lever is fully in 4LO.

5. Tighten bolt.

You may also want to consider changing out the transfer case fluid, if it's been a while or if you dint know when it was last changed.
I recently changed mine out with Royal Purple MaxATF and it shifts exponentially better!

Just remember to remove the fill plug bolt before the drain bolt, the reason being that sometimes the fill bolt is a PITA to get out, and you want to ensure you can fill it before you empty it.

Certainly would suck to drain the oil and not be able to replace it!

After looking around at other posts. I see that you can not depend on the 4wd indicator on the dash. Ah and the all important "owners manual" does actually have some useful info on use of the select-track transfer case. Full time 4wd does not act anything like part time. Go figure.:nutkick:
