Transmission option recomendation

Is it worth it to get the quadra drive II over the quadra trac II on the overland model? Or is there little real world difference in off road capability between the two?

Yes there is a difference between the two and only meaningful in extreme off-roading. For most situations, including off-road, you will be fine with Quadra Trac II. The difference is the real differential ONLY.

More importantly, Quadra Trac II is available only with the 3.6 V6 Pentastar. If you are considering the 3.0 L V6 Diesel or the Hemi V8, you get the Quadra Drive II, only.

Correction on this- you can get the hemi or diesel with quadratrac2 as well. The quadradrive2 is a standalone option (very rare) or available as part of the off-road package. I have a diesel with quadratrac2.

why would anyone want QT2 over QD2?

We are in the process of ordering our GC and we don't want the air suspension on our Ecodiesel 4x4 so we have to go with the QT2.

20 in. rims is one that swayed me.

Not sure what that means... I have 20 in. rims and QD2.

It means that I don't really have a "need" for QDII in my normal usage. Even the mediocre off-roading I will do with my DD, QTII will handle just fine. So instead of having to work 20 in. Rims into the deal when I bought my '13 or buying them afterwards I bought a ready-made version that suited my needs and wants.

Aside from tires that is...

Depending on when you ordered, or build date, QD2 was only available with the off road package, which switched 20" tires out in favor of 18".

Is any version better than the other for driving in snow?

berk483 01-30-2014 09:25 PM

In extreme situations QDII will always be better. But I've never had an issue in up to 10-12 inches unplowed. Also I live on a fairly steep hill which sadly isn't maintained that well in the winter. I've been pleasantly surprised especially with Snow mode.
