Where do I start

I am new to the Jeep world and am wondering where is a good place to start the modding. My girl just traded in here 99 GC Laredo for an 09 GC Laredo 2wheel drive 3.7. I am wanting to get some exhaust under there and was wondering what gives the bes sound to the 3.7's. I am kind of thinking about getting the MBRP for a liberty and putting the components in line on the stock exhaust, good idea? Also what are some "cheapER" end mods that are worth the money. I am a car man and I know my way around them. I have been modding for years and I am not afraid of getting dirty or DIY mods. So please any suggestions are welcomed. CAI, Exhaust, TB, etc....?

Well with the 3.7 most people are doing a home brew CAI. You can take a look for threads about that on here. There are a couple people on here that are doing exhausts but the ones for the V6 don't really sound too nice.

They don't make any chips for the 3.7 yet. Or make much of anything else for the 3.7 The user GCL06 has a 3.7 that is the nicest one I've seen so far. Since you have 4x2 I don't know if your gonna do any offroading. I'm guessing not. If you do then we can start getting into lifts, and tires, and racks, lights.

O ya light mods are pretty cheap compared to others. Exterior/interior ones. I think there is a tutorial on here.

Re: Where do I start

the list is not as long as the other types but there are quite few things to do ...

1 - HID low/fog beam conversion
2 - LED light conversion all around, interior, brake lights, reverse lights (Jason Lipschwartz) etc ...
3 - bilstein shocks for better ride
4 - bwoody non srt8 sway bar links
5 - srt8 sway bars for rear and front
6 - tint the front windows
7 - tint the tail lights by daniel (vendor here)
8 - delete roof racks if u dont haul anything
9 - cold air intake - either home made or get the K&N 63 series IRF (BPOD) has a good thread on to buy it cheap
10 - ported polished throttle body by Ryan (sleepy4.7)
11 - exhaust like mentioned above many out there but none that are just that good ... TimmyB has a really good SRT8 exhaust tip setup that looks sick
12 - Tune not sure
13 - that's all I can think of now

Re: Where do I start

Are srt8 sway bars for rear and front a direct swap? How much does it improve the ride?

Re: Where do I start

Much of this has already been mentioned but I'll just try to put all I can together.

Performance
- CAI - PVC intakes work great and are cheap. There are legit parts available if you're not handy or have loads of cash to blow.
- Ported/Polished TB from Flyin'Ryan - get in on the group buy while it's still running!
- Power Wire - available from AirRam, it fools the IAT into thinking the incoming air is 20 cooler, increasing hp and mpgs slightly in warmer weather.

- Muffler - I LOVE my Thrush Welded. You'd never guess that it was a 3.7 by the sound

Exterior
4x2 really limits the mods you'd want to do but there are still plenty of details to be perfected
- Chrome Turn Signal Bulbs http://autolumination.com/titaniumseries.htm
- You can tint your tail lights and/or front turn signal reflectors. I used VHT Nightshades. Plenty of pics to look through here: http://s787.photobucket.com/home/GCL06/index
- Roof rack of some sort (Rola for luggage or a spare tire. Thule makes great snowboard/ski racks)
- Wheels
- Exhaust tip - I've got a $12 one from Wal-Mart until I find one I really like
- Paint mirrors to match the paint
- Bull bar or brushguard - check eBay for good deals
- HID kits - great vendors here
- Grille Inserts - available through Saguaro http://www.saguaro4xcomponents.com/
- Hitch - if you don't already have one and need to tow, I got one from Uhaul (parts, wiring, install) for $380.
- Fog lights
- Stillen headlight covers

Suspension
If you wanted to go for the lifted look, it would still be possible though not necessarily practical to get a budget boost (most for WKs are 2").
- Bwoody Links
- Bilstein shocks

Another option would be an SRT8 transformation with a bumper, side skirts, etc but I'm not knowledgeable enough on the topic to go into detail.

Re: Where do I start

they should be ... check out the complete suspension thread by Scott and it tells you what parts you need to purchase ... I think it's the triangle mount you need and that's bout it they're $10.00 a piece and the sway bar is $100 ... I have no done it yet but people who have say it improves the handling a lot especially when combine with the bwoody links

engine swap.

I kidd, many people here share your engine and they'll be happy to help you out with all your questions.

Re: Where do I start

A ported throttle body really woke my 3.7 up, check out Flyin Ryan Performance in the vendor section. Also you should go ahead and swap to synthetic oil.

Re: Where do I start

I think I'll be doing an MBRP exhaust and now I'm really wanting to P&P the TB.

WSP Jeep 03-03-2010 10:11 PM

Re: Where do I start

Does MBRP even make a catback exhaust for the 3.7? Id love to hear one that would be sweet.
