Riddle me this?

Upon reading consumer reports Best SUV's & trucks, I noticed that they say that the reliability of the freshioned GC V6 is well below average, with "So so fuel economy".

But if you read the review of the Durango, they say that the V6, while no rocket ship is smooth, refined and more economical. They don't mention one way or another in terms of reliability with the Dodge, but are more complimentary of it.

Don't they both use the same Pentastar V6?

I take most of those reports with a grain of salt. A forum or talking to people who have the vehicle I find to be a good way to make a decision on a vehicle.

It is true though that many of us early build 2014 GC V6 owners had to endure a rough shifting transmission (amongst other issues).

After 9 months though and two TSB reflashes did my transmission woes finally get resolved.

This is where you come to realize that CR isn't exactly always super-savvy about the vehicles they review. It's the same engine and drivetrain in both examples. It's the same base platform too.

A lot of non-enthusiasts tend to not realize this about certain car lines -- they may be the same in all but appearance -- so I don't fault CR for not realizing this as they are not specifically a vehicle rag. However...not realizing this can tend to point out inherent reviewer bias (often times subconscious).

Did the Durangos suffer from cylinder head failures like the GC? Were the same percentage of engines effected?
