How long did you wait for parts/repairs?
I'm looking at buying a GC diesel in late spring/early summer. But there's one thing that worries me. I've read stories about people having to wait weeks for repair parts to arrive from Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram. Maybe they're backordered or just not stocked. This concerns me because I tow a trailer daily for work (self employed, selling books to schoolteachers) and I wouldn't want to be without my tow vehicle for very long. No work, no money, no bills get paid. I know that dealerships might give loaner vehicles, but to my knowledge, loaners as well as rentals are neither allowed nor equipped to tow a trailer.

So I would like all of you who have had work done on your Jeep (or Chrysler product) to tell me: when you needed repairs, how long have you had to wait for your vehicle to be fixed? I'm trying to get an idea of whether the "it took weeks" scenario is common or rare.

Thanks in advance!

PS-- moderators, if there is a more appropriate section for this post, please move it for me. Thanks.

Wow, no one wants to say how long they were without their vehicle due to repairs?

Re: How long did you wait for parts/repairs?
Perhaps its the question.

IMO the answers will vary from......minutes if a part is in stock to some who are still waiting.

Depending whst part of OK you live at nothing that is available dho u kd be more yhan a few days away with most parts in a local warehouse to service all the local dealers.

And if it has to come from detroit still only a few days.

Now could you be waiting longer depends on what fails . If it fail s for all your burner friends first at same timr might be awhile.

Jeep doesnt make much in house.

They have vendors.

Vendors can be slow to respond or be out of someyhing for a gabillion reasons.

I wont attest to the reliability; for me its the dealer experience that tells all.

Re: How long did you wait for parts/repairs?
Well, here's the thing. Over the course of 40 years I have owned 1 Chevy, 1 Mazda, 3 Dodges and 1 Plymouth (in the '80s to mid '90s), 1 Ford, 2 Mercurys, 1 VW, and 1 Toyota. For all of those, I have never seen a wait of more than one business day for a part to come in. Well, I take that back... the Plymouth Grand Voyager's tranny went out under warranty and that took about 4 days to get a replacement installed, IIRC.

However, I have read several accounts in the forums of people having to wait weeks for a part, with their Jeep out of commission for all that time. So I thought it would be good to do a sort of informal survey or poll of forum members. Because while I would hope that these situations are extremely rare exceptions, what if they are not? I'd like to know ahead of time.

I am concerned that Jeep (and/or all Chrysler divisions) may not keep as plentiful a stock of parts on hand as do other manufacturers.

Re: How long did you wait for parts/repairs?
I had a PCM and a wheel bearing replaced. The PCM was about a week and the wheel bearing was four days. The wheel bearing IMHO should have been in stock. Neither issue kept me from driving the car. I was able to wait for the repairs once the parts were in.

My '11 Acura had 2 screens and a complete head unit replaced. Each time was about a week.

I think some of the long waits with Jeep was that they had some manufacturing issues with some parts. So even if parts were available, the ones on the shelf were no better than the ones they were supposed to replace.
