I am in Nova Scotia and am looking for a 2wd Grand cherokee limited(loaded up)
2wd was not offered in Canada so....
I was wondering if i bought one with the transfer case or front end gone i could easily convert it.
i know i would need a tailshaft for the transmission and a driveshaft .
But the big question is the front end .
The 2wd is just a tube axle in place of the front diff correct?
I can import one from the junkyard the question is should i just get a complete front end or change out the diff ?
before you ask why i like something different and believe a "street rated" jeep would be cool (in a strange way) .
factory 17"s lowered etc.
Part of the idea is to one day show up to a "jeep thing" with a clean lowered street jeep amongst the muddy ones!
If you are going to do it, do it right: use a JK axle and a selectable transfer case. Then take your solid axle and use it to build a trailer for yourself.
The 2wd to 4wd swap is E A S Y and I recomend it, as a 2wd WJ would suck because of the solid front axle- UNDERSTEER!!! However, you should probably just byy a "FRONT CLIP" or a wrecked unit so you have a spare tranny and motor. I am sure it will be cheaper in the end.
FWIW- I like your "street jeep" idea A LOT. I have a 5.3L for my 2 door that I am STRONGLY considering dropping into a WJ in the near future. We will see what I can pull out of this 4.7 non-HO that I am working on.

No not what i'm thinking.
i'm looking to go 2wd as they are not available in canada.
So it would be easier to get the complete 2wd front end instead of just the tube?

a 2wd axle will be lighter, and easier to drop lower PROBABLY.
As far as tranny- you would probably just need a 2wd tranny and make sure the PCM is going to work with it.
I have seen guys just remove front driveshafts to get dyno numbers or drift, but your still turning the output shaft. I bet you could just do a 2wd tranny, and custom driveshaft.
