DRL burned bulb/ballast on WK2
I have a 2012 Overland and last week my driver side DRL bulb went out, but didn't display a message on the dash. 3 days later my rear driver side blinker bulb went out, which gave me a message on the dash.

I went to Advance Auto, spent $12 on bulbs and went home to replace them. I started with the DRL bulb and to my surprise the ballast was brown and burned. The bulb itself was partially black but both filaments looked intact. I then replaced the rear turn signal bulb and even though the ballast looked fine, the bulb was also partially black while the filaments looked fine.

Once I got back inside to warm up I searched for threads regarding this issue and found a couple that claim it's a known issue. Some owners just live with it and replace bulbs every few months while others have tried LED's with spotty success and other try the dealership. Some claim the dealer warranties it and others say they don't. I have a 100k Max Care warranty.

What's the fix? Should I replace the bulbs with LED or take it to the dealer to have them replace the ballast?

Personally, I'd call the dealer first and ask what they can do for you. Be sure to mention how unsafe this issue makes you feel.

I would definitely contact the dealer/service center. This is almost certainly an issue that should be covered by warranty.

Just an update, my passenger DRL has now burned out. To my disappointment when I inspected it, not only was the socket brown and burned looking but the driver's side is also brown and burned. I have a feeling the dealer did not replace/repaire the socket as they originally claimed. I have a dealer appointment next week.
