It's so steamy- Exhaust.

While steamy might be a good description for a Saturday night or an evening in a Sochi sauna, I don't thinks its great for my exhaust.

Why is it when its 55F outside today my exhaust is still "steamy" after an hour drive. Anybody else's like that? Sure when it was under 30F in the last couple of weeks, I could almost understand that ( although all other warmed up cars didn't have any visible exhaust).

It has been like this since day1 and the outside temps have been higher then 55 and still visible exhaust after many hour drives.

My 11 has been like that since day one. No worries. ;)

I have noticed the same on my 2014. As long as you are not loosing coolant you are fine. I have noticed that new cars do this much more than the old ones.

Here's my theory why. Emission standards are more strict for new cars. Because water is a by product of the catalytic converter breaking down exhaust gas, then more steam would be produced by a cat that is doing more "cleaning" of the exhaust gas to get it as clean as possible.

I commented in another thread a few days ago that mine does the same thing. I only started noticing it when the weather got cold.

I thought maybe the drain holes in the exhaust were clogged.

Water is a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion, not just the emissions controls.

It's the resonators and larger mufflers being used these days. They slow the exhaust more and allow more of the water vapor to collect and to condense.
