2014 CD Player

I have had my 14 summit for about 5 months now and I am loving the sound system (main reason I went with this instead of the Overland). I have a question for anyone out there that has the CD player.

I did not order my jeep with the CD player because I wanted the space in the center console. As time has gone by, I keep looking at my stack of DVD-A discs that I accumulated over the years and wonder how good they would sound on the system as well.

Does anyone know what types of media the CD player handles? I am assuming it would be able to play regular audio and MP3, but I was not sure about DVD-V and DVD-A.

Also, has anyone added the CD player after ordering one without it included? Can it only go in the center console, or has someone retrofitted it to fit somewhere else?

One last question, if the CD player isn't the best option, does the SD card have good playback? I have ripped all of my favorite CDs on my computer with lossless quality, but I do not have a means to play that through my system (have not tried a SD card and I dont think my IPOD can handle playing lossless sound).

Thanks for any input!

I have all my CD's burnt to the computer, then placed on my iPhone. Sounds great both via bluetooth and by USB. Your iPod will work well. SD should be same quality.

just copy them over to a USB flash drive.

I have thought about that, but was not sure if I would run into the same issue as the Ipod(old iphone 4s). I believe I read somewhere that an iphone would not be able to play the full lossless track. I could be wrong though...

Also, sorry for posting this in the general section. Is there any way I can move this into the audio sub forum?

Thanks

Re: 2014 CD Player

In the sound environment of a moving vehicle, I've never felt the need for "even better quality" recordings than I get with the iPod function of my iPhone streaming via Bluetooth. It blows away any form of radio for sound quality. So iPod (or similar) or SD Card should provide pleasing results for most folks when the Jeep is actually moving. And you can fit a LOT of material on a current generation playback device compared to CD/DVD media and without taking up all the space for a disk player.

(Mod will likely move this when they notice it's not in the subforum)

I have over 300 albums/3,000 songs on a single microSD card. Either Bluetooth or Aux In sounds much better than Sirius/XM IMNSHO. The issue with a plain SD or Flash drive is indexing. On my phone or tab I can sort by album or artist, find a particular song, and display extra information.

If you want to fit the CD player, see this guide to removing it, and do the opposite.

Only issue will be the top internal compartment you have than will interfere and would need to be removed.

But as many have said, sound in a car in general is pretty average no matter how relatively good it is.
Rip all of the music, AAC 320kbps, VBR and you should be fine.
Get a 64GB (or bigger) SD XC card formatted to NTFS or FAT32 and load it up.

I wish my Limited came without the CD player. Even though I got it for free with the car, now I have to pay to get rid of it, if I want the space back

Yes, a few parts are needed, but there are instructions at the top of the audio/nav area on how to do it yourself which at least mitigates cost.
