2014 Overland - born on date 11/16/2013 (111607)

Hello all. Sorry if this topic is tired. Very close to buying 2014 GC Overland maximum steel V6 4x4 with advanced tech and mopar exterior appearance group. On lot for two months. After research I am very worried that I will have the electrical/radio problems so many before have mentioned. Is this still a real concern I should be aware of? Is there any guarantee I can get from the dealership before signing off on this that I will not experience the trouble others have ??? I passed a "new" looking bright white limited tonight on the way home from work (8 pm very dark out) that had great looking headlights but ZERO tail lights on. Really want this to happen but....concerned for sure. Thanks for your insight!

Greetings,

Any thing could possibly happen. A dealership will not give you anything since you are covered by the warranty. Get the best extended warranty they offer at the time of signing. It might cost more, but could be a life saver down the road. In terms of the radio, do not do anything until you shack down the GC.

All I know is my 2011 has not given me any problems except for that stupid key FOB. Otherwise, changed out the Alpine Factory surround sound system and my service dealer did not give any problems, in fact he was impressed.

Good luck.

Best for now.:)

Just remember that for all the people on her complaining about issues that there are alot of people that don't post of the fun and no issues they are having with their Jeep. Sure the transmission needed updates to make it better and so did the Radio, but they are better. Any Rapid Response issue would be taken care of by the dealer before you bought it. I don't think any dealer is going to give you a guarantee that you won't ever have these issues, can you guarantee you won't get a virus/spam on your computer if you use it? When you look at the GC that you want, find the Version #. Most people don't have the radio issues anymore, just minor annoyances. Extended warranty, look on the site for prices people are getting and try to have the dealer match but you have until 12/12,000 miles to get the best deal. I think you will be fine and really enjoy the jeep. The only time I have had my 2014 in is for oil changes and TSB/RR notices, other than that it has been great.

Every vehicle will have some issue, just depends if that issue will make/break you buying it.

Good Luck on the decision.

Thanks for the response, insight and advice. I wasn't aware of the key fob issue. It's always something...

Thanks for the post SnoFire. What is the version # going to signify? There's no doubt that there are tons of satisfied owners out there....not posting their success stories. Wish there were more of them! Just gets you thinking when you read the bad things, could this be an issue that really has not been resolved from the manufacture. Appreciate your insight to the dealer too. Was hoping there was a guarantee that the system (electrical) was guaranteed to be of the latest version as opposed to an older faulty version with known issues. Hearing that the radio isn't really an issue anymore is great. Seeing the Limited the other night with no tail lights was still a shocker.

It's all a roll of the dice. It is a sharp looking vehicle, I'll let it be known what we decide to do!

For a reference, version 13.19 caused alot of people to see the "Service 911 system" error (I know its not called exactly that but can't remember exactly what it says). I for one had that when I was on that version. Ever since I updated, 13.48, I have been fine with it. What I would do is get a list of the all the TSB's and Rapid Response that deal with that GC and have the dealer take care of them (the transmission update might be the one you really have to ask for). For the no taillights, that might be a ground for all we know. There might be some quirks to the Jeep but I would bet that alot of people are enjoying their Jeep more than what they worry about it, that is what a warranty is for. But the final decision is yours to make, you have to make the payments and live with your decision. All we can do is provide our thoughts.

Greetings,

My understanding in the 2013+ JGC, they have solved the problem. The dealer repaired on warranty with no problems. Sometimes I need the key reprogrammed and since I have been gooding to the dealer for service, they do it no without charge.

This is my first time owning a Jeep product and this will not be my last time owning a Jeep product.

Best for now.:)

Supposedly anything built after about August has had much more reliable electrical systems.

I have an October 2013 Overland 4x4 (Max Steel also) and it has had no issues. Of course, it's only a month old and it's been in the body shop for a week because I was rear-ended by a teenager. That's another story though.

Overall though, the general consensus is that anything after August 2013 is largely free of the problems that plagued the earlier MY2014s.
