Holy smacks! My JGC just moved itself out of the driveway

A half hour after parking it, I looked outside and my 2014 JGC was in the road. It had rolled itself out into the street.

I suspected it slid on a slightly snowy drive but that's not what happened. Despite saying it was in park, it was not. I was able to replicate this several times. For now it's back in the driveway but with the parking brake fully engaged. Wow - that could have been bad.

Anybody else had this happen?

Replicate SAFELY --> Videotape --> Dealership

Video is for dealership in case they cannot replicate it. It is amazing how some dealerships can have a hard time replicating user problems.

Go Goldy Auto, go Goldy! In all seriousness, I think there is a thread on here about 2014's not let be allowed to go into the "conveyor" type car washes because of something similar... Let me see if I can find the link.

That thread doesn't mention the car wash thing, but I do remember reading similar comments due to movement in park.

That's it, one more reason to keep your car away from auto car washes.

This is the more likely culprit... if it can slip the wheels will roll once it gets moving.

Well, THEIR copy of the parking brake works... [old computer joke]

With a grain of salt. Although it is a truly good idea to use the parking brake, on mild inclines the park position on your transmission should prevent vehicle movement.

Unless you live on the side of a hill, it sounds like a chat with the repair tech is in order.

If they say they can't replicate it, put it on a hill and ask the dealership owner to
sit in a chair behind it...

You should ALWAYS use your parking brake. ALWAYS. That's why it's called a parking brake and not an "emergency brake" as many call it. The parking prawl in the transmission is really not designed to hold the vehicle, you'd be surprised how often a little bump or something in a parking lot will push a vehicle out of park and send it rolling away.

ALWAYS use the parking brake.
