Nitto Terra Grappler Lifespan????

Hi guys! First post here; a Quick intro, I currently have a Jeep Commander and in spring will be in the market for a 2014 WK2 Limited and am doing my research on mods in advance. I am a WI weekend warrior that drives mostly on road but needs the AT tire capability for WI weather, getting into duck camp on dirt farm roads, deer hunting on National Forest fire roads, and various other fishing/kayaking adventures.

Here is the comment/question in need more info on - I am looking at AT tire options for the 20" rims, and there seems to be just 1; the Nitto Terra Grappler in stock 265/50-20. For the guys running this tire - What is the lifespan you have experienced so far? I am a bit hesitant to go with a potentially soft tire like this as I had an awful experience with a set of General Grabber ATs, they were great winter/offroad performers but lasted 15K.

And No, I dont want to go with a non stock size. I have oversized on my Commander now and just dont want the hassle of speedo/odo being off and all the other screwing around with trimming, bending and spacing that comes with it. I also really like the SRT reps that are out there :) Will those survive in winter/salt conditions?

Thanks in advance - Any advice is appreciated...

At best 50,000 but your tread will definitely change around 20,000. But up to 20,000 it's probably the best tire I've had.

Go with the 18" rim and you have more options. I would also get one of the two ORA packages along with the two group.

Everything I've read says the TG are great up until 20k and then they kinda head downhill quickly.

I was trying to decide between the TG and duratracs and I love the looks of both but the review of >20k is what made me decide to order the DTs.

On mine they were very good for up to 30k, the next 5k still ok, just starting to get to the harder compound. Note they till had good tread depth, just started getting more slippery in the wet.

What size are you running? The Duratracs arent offered in 265/50-10

I've had mine on for about 8k miles so far, and the tread depth is still at 12/32 according to the print out from the Jeep dealership after my oil change.

I was under the assumption that these would last to at least 50k, and many reviewers online state that with regular rotations they can get up to 75-90k. Maybe they are BS'ing?

You can have them on your rims for 80,000 but you'll have a crappy ride for the last 50,000 miles.

Don't buy them unless you drive less than 10,000 miles/year. They're not worth it! I've said time and time again on this site that the best all terrain tire with excellent mileage is the GY Adventure ATs (old style was the Silent Armors). I drive 25,000 miles/year - highway,snow,ice,rain,etc... I'm on gravel roads every day. I drive off-road once/week. These tires are really tough & quiet! I'm not sure though if they make them in your size. Tire Rack has a great selection of sizes that some dealers can't get.

Check to see if the tires that you have are load range "E"....if they are they will last longer than the regular passenger rated tire in the Terra Grapplers. I had them on a RAM 3500 and they wore fairly well however, I didnt haul very heavy loads like the tire was rated at. The LT or Light Truck tires usually last longer but will give you a stiffer ride than the passenger tires or "P". Also not all LT tires are E rated some are C, D etc...hope this helps.
