Stuck in 4th
 
2012 WK2 5.7. This is the 3rd time in 4 months, I get stuck in 4th gear and there is nothing I can do about it. I didn't have this issue for the first year, the dealership just flashes it, and it's ok for a while, then I'm back again. What is up?

It is in limp home mode. Should be one or more trouble codes set to tell why.

"Limp Home Mode" should result in being stuck in 2nd gear once the vehicle has been stopped.

From the 2012 OM

Transmission Limp Home Mode

Transmission function is monitored electronically for
abnormal conditions. If a condition is detected that could
result in transmission damage, Transmission Limp Home
Mode is activated. In this mode, the transmission remains
in the current gear until the vehicle is brought to a stop.
After the vehicle has stopped, the transmission will
remain in second gear regardless of which forward gear
is selected. PARK, REVERSE, and NEUTRAL will continue
to operate. The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)
may be illuminated. Limp Home Mode allows the vehicle
to be driven to an authorized dealer for service without
damaging the transmission.
In the event of a momentary problem, the transmission
can be reset to regain all forward gears by performing the
following steps:
1. Stop the vehicle.
2. Shift the transmission into PARK.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.
4. Wait approximately 10 seconds.
5. Restart the engine.
6. Shift into the desired gear range. If the problem is no
longer detected, the transmission will return to normal
operation.
NOTE: Even if the transmission can be reset, we recommend
that you visit your authorized dealer at your
earliest possible convenience. Your authorized dealer has
diagnostic equipment to determine if the problem could
recur.
If the transmission cannot be reset, authorized dealer
service is required.

This just happened to my 2011 5.7 Summit with 32K miles on Friday.

I was on the freeway, felt a lurch and saw the check engine light and the FCW OFF message were illuminated. The truck seemed to be loosing power.

Pulled off the freeway, shut down and restarted but in drive could not get out of 4th gear. The truck was struggling to accelerate but I was able to get to a dealer located about 7 miles away.

With my luck, I was 100 miles from home, but I have an extended Chryco service contract and was off to enterprise to pickup a rental.

Haven't had an update from the dealer since Friday but the truck threw numerous transmission related codes.

My 2011 had been absolutely flawless in (3) years of ownership until this !

To follow up, my transmission problem (from the above post) was caused by a failed solenoid pack #8059043.

Code P-0750 was generated.

It's all fixed under warranty and running normally.

I have a 2008 JGC 5.7 and it just happened for the 1st time. I cannot get it out of 4th. I took it into the dealer today. I'll see what happened. I have 120,00 miles and this is my 1st issue ever.

I had the same problem / fix (solenoid pack) on my 2012 5.7l GC @ 58,700 with replacement under warrantee. I now have 108,500 without another warrantee repair occurrence.
