6K miles for first oil change

I have about 5K miles on my diesel and the oil indicator says I have about 25 percent remaining. I have been doing some towing. Does this seem to be about the average that everyone is getting?

Thanks for the replies.

Just over 8k on mine and my oil life says 26 percent remaining. This is with about 85% highway driving. Refilled the DEF at 7500 miles as it had only 150 miles to go until the engine wouldn't restart per the EVIC

I had my first done at 3k, oil life indicator was at about 10%. I drive almost all city though. I like to get my first oil change done between 3-5k anyway though.

My oil life indicator went down to zero at around 2800 miles. when I brought in to the dealer, he told me it was too early. Part the indicator calculations is time based. He said since the cars can sit in the lots for months that the indicators should be reset to zero at purchase time. He reset it and told me to come back at around 6000 miles.

Did I mention that I love me Jeep?

I am 5000 miles and about 50% on the oil life. Vast majority of the driving is highway miles...and heading across the country starting Saturday...road trip!

1300 miles - 50% oil life per EVIC. 80% city driving thus far though.

0% oil life at 2998 miles this morning. Oil change Friday! 85% city driving.

I thought I read somewhere that the CRDs were supposed to go 10k miles before an oil change or once a year. Is that not the case? I haven't even put 300 miles on mine and it's already at 85% oil life.

That is best case. I'm just listening to the computer. I drive a lot of short trips and winter driving is probably not helping.

Its obvious that city driving has a BIG impact on oil change intervals. Knowing this, I am using my other car for around town. With oil changes costing over $125, those trips to the market get expensive.

By the way we should start a thread on Who has the best deal on oil and filters. This stuff is not going to be easy to find except at the dealer.

Re: 6K miles for first oil change

If you check under first oil change you will see where oil filters and oil are mentioned and sources for both. I bought both filters and oil for 3 full changes and that ran me 300 bucks. I will do oil analysis once hitting 0% on the indicator as a gauge and from previous posters the dealer should really set the oil change back to 0 because of much idling at the plant when being moved around.

I do feel looking at the filters that they are either produced by Mann or Mahle and should come down in price once other platforms (Ram 1500 for example) also starts using them. Oil will most likely stay at the price levels they are now because of the low SAP. I am guessing with more quantity that 12-15 bucks for a filter is possible...
