Newbie looking at buying a 2006 Limited tomorrow. Any advice?

Hey guys,

Obviously new here, because I don't even own one yet lol, but I'm going to look at what I see as a great deal on a 2006 Limited, 5.7, AWD, Gold (or tan, or whatever the real name of the paint is, I'm not sure), nav system, backup sensors, full leather, power moonroof, trailer tow group, 56,000 miles, one owner, clear Carfax. Asking $15,000.

Is there anything I should be aware of with this year?

Thanks in advance!!

At around 75k you will probably need to replace you front diff bushing which is the only true problem I had with my 05'. To have a dealer do it you're looking around $700 or u could do it yourself. Sound vehicle and great front crash test rating! First hand experience!

Make sure to get all maintenance records, as the WK is very maintenance intensive and costly in that regard, compared to most other vehicles. e.g. Diff fluids need to be changed at minimum 30k, etc.. My rear diff went at 73k, even though all maintenance was done properly by dealer. Listen for whining in the diff's, most noticed at HWY speeds, and if there is noise, walk away unless you want to spend a lot. Common problem areas are leaking trans cooling lines, worn front diff bushing, which are costly to repair. IF these were not done, expect to very soon as both went on mine in under 45k. Sway bar end links will need to be replaced if they haven't been. Throttle body will also be gunked up with that many miles, which affects drivability and mpg.

Thanks guys!!! Due to what you guys said here, I asked a few questions and he does have all the maintenance records, which include showing the diffy bushing was replaced, as well as the starter. The diffy fluid was swapped and the engine coolant was changed too.

The part that concerned me is that the transfer case was replaced with a reman at the dealer two weeks ago and only has 200 miles on it since the replacement. From what I understand, the 3yr/36K warranty probably does not transfer to a new owner. I'm waiting on a definite reply from a local dealer with that on Monday.

If the warranty doesn't transfer, I think I'm going to pass. If it weren't for the transfer case issue, it would be on its way home with me already.

That's great news about the records. I'm interested into why they replaced the transfer case. I know some models had software issues with the transfer case. I absolutely loved my 2005 and would still own it today if I had chosen a different route to work.

I love my 05 limited. Runs beautiful have had no problems and gets compliments. Even a couple people trying to buy it off me. But I love it to much. Only thing I don't like is my mpg. But get who gets a hemi for mpg anyways.

He said he had a couple things going on with his Jeep. One was a rattling noise, and one was a knocking noise. The dealer attributed the rattle type sound to the diffy bushing, so they swapped it out, but that didn't help. Then they did the transfer case and it took care of it.

Just wish I knew if that t case was trusty or not. I really liked the looks of that Jeep. Had everything I'm looking for in it (except maybe remote start).

I would offer 15k - the cost to replace the transfer case with a brand new nv245 out of principle. I cant think of what would rattle with the transfer case?

Otherwise looks great.

lots of people complain about the nav system in these years, one of the known problems is the joystick breaking, the 08 models and up had a better nav unit. Also if you get a hemi make sure you read up on oil catch cans for hemis click the link to do some reading

here is some other stuff about the 4 wheel drive systems on these vehicles (there are 3) and which one might be the most suited to your needs. additionally the site wkjeeps.com is very informative and can serve you well in the future

Thanks for the info guys!! The catch can is definitely something I was going to install.

Would any of you guys worry about that new transfer case since he doesn't have many miles on it? He's selling this one because his new diesel is in already.

He did reply and said his bottom line is $14,500.

looks like a pretty fair deal if it checks all your boxes then go for it,if your paying cash might want to offer 14 flat or bring a cashiers check for 14 and have 500 cash in pocket
