Remote start - that remote has some RANGE!!

Just for kicks the other day, as I walked out of work, I figured I'd test the remote start. I was parked about 150 yards away from the building. NO line of sight - I work at an RV dealer and there were about 45 units between me and the Jeep. It was about 15 above zero, and the Jeep had been sitting in the lot, unsheltered, since 0800.

Granted I "cheated" - I used a trick I learned years ago to increase transmitter range. I stuck the end of the key into the hollow under my chin, and used my noggin as an antenna when I double-clicked the button. The Jeep was too far away for me to hear the horn chirp, but as cold as it was...I just pocketed the remote and kept walking. I walked around the final bend and.....

....the parking lights were ON.

Damn thing started from over 150 yards away!!! :) :)

(I figured with all the remote start "problem" threads, I'd start a good one just for the sake of variety...).

Re: Remote start - that remote has some RANGE!!

I don't have any issues with my remote start via apps or the fob. On the apps it can be a little delayed, sometimes requiring up to 2 or 3 minutes to start but it has always started. Interestingly I get the email saying it has been remote started about 30 seconds after I initiate the start whether it has actually started or not. Haven't tried for distance on the fob yet. Would estimate the longest distance so far as half a football field or so and you've got me curious now. Gonna have start testing it, I would have been pleased just with the stated 100 yards.

Never heard of using your head as an antenna. I am going to have to try that one!

So, um.... how long ago did they put that metal plate in your skull? :D Lol, just kidding.

All my metal (2# of titanium) is in my legs. Left femur, left hip, and right tib-fib, all with the requisite screws to hold it in place.

But I've been using the noggin trick since long before I was rebuilt in 08... :)

I drive my Jeep wearing my tin foil hat. hell I pick up radio stations out of state! Works great for extending key fob range too.

I 2nd the Noggin trick...it really works. Had a buddy show me when my FOB was out if range...held it to his chin and the car doors locked. Lol!

Mine has never failed to start when inside my home on the opposite end from the driveway. Best FOB range ever.

I don't believe Remote Start is available on Export Models due to emission regulations. There is a big thread over in the export section about it, probably has more detail than what I know http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/wk2-r...der-63484.html

+1000 the range is really impressive on the remote keyfob. If it had 2-way capabilities to indicate current vehicle status that would be the icing on the cake.
