Mirror Mishap

I'll just start this post as such: Aw crap.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/208/rgls.jpg

Got in a hurry to pick up a sick kid and didn't watch that side. Boom.

Anyone know of a good place to buy a mirror online? I'm guessing I need the whole assembly. This is on a Summit, so it has all the motors, heaters, dimmer, baubles, and doo-dads.

Also, anyone done a replacement on one yet? I see the PDF for replacing the cap, but don't have one for the whole enchilada.

Thanks and ... happy Friday? ;)

Ouch! :(

Look on the vendor tab above and you will find Just for Jeeps, a long time forum sponsor. I have bought from them in the past and gotten fast shipments on genuine Mopar parts. I believe they offer a 10% discount to forum members, too.

They are located in MA and not very close so you may want to check some of the other vendors on the vendors tab and perhaps you can find one nearby.

As for replace, remove door panel. Been a while since ive done a WK2 panel but pretty sure its one 10mm behind handle, one 10mm in pocket to pull door closed. Theres clips around the perimeter of the panel. I usually start at tye bottom when I do door panels. Pry the panel from the door. Once its started itll pop right off. You dont have to fully remove the panel. Next pull the window frame moulding off. Think theres one clip at the forward base and itll just slip off. Mirror is held on by three 10mm and the plugs that go into the mirror control module.

Or

Go see a body shop. They can get and install the mirror for you

Thanks guys,

I got a quote from Just for Jeeps: $842 is the list price. My price is $631.50 (including shipping and tax). Ouch. Turns out it's expensive to be an idiot.

The instuctions for removing the door panel are on wj2jeeps.com. Not too bad as far as I can tell. I wonder if I'll need to remove the tweeter from the front of the window too. Guess I'll find out.

I'll put pictures of the process on here once I get around to doing the work. I'll need a full Saturday without rain in Seattle to get it done ... so ... should be around mid-July.

You can buy an aftermarket replacement mirror also. Will look and function the same as OEM just wont be a "factory" part. There would be a considerable savings

I would say if you wanted to bother with it.

You could find a cheaper mirror from a limited with the blinker and swap the wiring harness.

It can be done, removed the wiring harness from one already.

Okay, well, that wasn't too bad besides the considerable expense.

First step was to pull the window controls. Easy enough to pry up with a plastic tool. Also pull the screw under the tab in the door pull.

Next pop off the little cover behind the door handle and yank the one screw.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/534/oher.jpg

Then, using the appropriate plastic pry tool pop all of the plastic rivets out around the door. Pull the door opener and move the door card free.

Pop the rivets holding the tweeter on and you'll find the three nuts in question.

Beneath the mirror (under the door card) you'll find the two connectors for the mirror.

Pop the old mirror off (it's super easy) and attach the new one. Installation of the card is the reverse of the removal. It takes a bit of fiddling, but nothing too bad. I only broke one of those damned plastic rivets. :slapfight:

I am now the proud owner of a full set of summit mirror replacement parts (glass, motors, lights, sensors, etc) if anyone needs them.

Thanks for this...Just did it today and it was very simple. I strangely didn't snap any rivets...there'll be a blue moon tonight. Wish I could find mirrors with the courtesy light like yours.

Humorously I could really use the glass if its in A ok shape.. Mine got scratched by an over zealous tech cleaning it. Anyone know if a '14 Summit is a replacement for an '11 Laredo.
I sort of remember reading that the plug is the same but with an additional hole yet fit anyway? I'd rather subsidize your bummer than line someone else's pocket..

Sorry NonStop- I completely missed your reply until just now. PM me your address and I'll send out the glass. It's in perfect shape, although it does have the light for blind spot monitoring in it.
