I did it so long ago I forget, but its pretty basic. Pull out the metal pins on the outside of the cross rails then unscrew the knobs. The rails just squeeze the sides near the front of the plastic covers and pull it off, then I think its a #20 torx driver to remove the two screws on each mount.

To remove the cross bars I just losened up the knob as much as it would go. Slide one end to the front and the other side to the back and wiggle it off. There was just a little clamp on the underside thet the knob/screw goes into.

Pop off the covers, remove the two screw per corner, and your done!!

Also, when putting the screws back in to cover the holes, mine seemed to long, so I trimmed them down.

Odd, when I did mine I had to remove the metal pins on the cross rail clamps. I was able to grab the ends with vise grips and pulled them out, then unscrewed the knobs and they seperate.

For filling the mounting screw holes go to the auto parts store and get "GM Universal retainers". The are small black plastic panel retainers that fit right inside the holes. Part # 45890. Before you pop them in squeeze some silicone sealant in the holes and under the retainer heads. You can get some color match paint and paint the area and retainer heads if you want to blend them in.

I am going to go buy a torx driver for this...someone please confirm #20 is what I need to purchase. TIA

UPDATE - So it is a #30 torx driver, 8 bolts to remove (this is for an 08)...super simple. I put the stock rails back on and it looks a lot better with the rack off...I am prolly gonna get SRT8 roof rails but for now it looks a lot better!

Or spend about 6 bucks at the auto store for those plastic plugs noted above. it looks much better IMO, and I had the srt rails installed at one point but it looks much cleaner now with them gone.
