WK2 Hemi - engine whine @ 2,400rpm?
Hello. Jeep is in the dealership now for a warranty check. Just purchased used and now seem to be noticing a whine coming from under the hood around 2,400 rpm. Easy to duplicate 100% of the time. I don't recall hearing this when I test drive but probably didn't notice or had the radio up, etc.
Noise happens in and out of gear, but more noticeable in gear and under moderate acceleration between 2,200 and 2,700, then it will go away. Happens hot or cold.
Dealer has STAR ticket in- was told to remove serpentine belt and airbox to check for bearing or something on the accessory line or an air leak. With the belt off and airbox off, noise continues.
Dealer went to find another 2011, couldn't find one with the hemi, but tracked down a 2011 Durango with the hemi. They report the Durango sounds the same. So they are waiting to hear back from STAR tomorrow, and if they don't yield any other helpful suggestions they don't know what to do.
Owner of the dealership, a solid friend of mine, offered to refund me and buy the Jeep back and cancel the deal or let me buy something else.
If it's the way it's supposed to be, I'm a happy guy, but wanted to check in here. Any other WK2 hemi owners notice this, or want to try to replicate for me and report back? I would almost say it sounds like a supercharger under the hood. Much to my dismay, I checked and did not find a blower under there...
I would greatly appreciate you time to check and comment back. Thanks!!
