After only 4 days...

The engine light came on! Had only 140 miles on it. Now it's been in the shop since yesterday morning. They think it's a tiny "evap" leak somewhere, but they have to run more tests. They will be running a smoke test to try and pinpoint the leak from the fuel tank to the engine. Has anyone else had the engine light come on this early? BTW, we LOVE the Jeep! It's well worth the wait. :) Didn't think I'd have to be waiting for it again... :(

Sorry it happened so soon. That's a bummer.

Thanks - they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. They reset it, and the light went off. They're hoping it was just a fluke...I am too. ;)

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but my check engine light just came on for that reason for the second time in 3000 miles. When I bring it in tomorrow I am not going to accept the "fluke" answer

If the system does not see an issue after several restarts, the check engine light should go out by itself. If they have to reset it, chances are good that the issue still exists and it will come on again.

Have been restarting several times today. Light remains on. Am I going to have to see the dealer every month for the remainder of my lease since they state they can't find anything wrong?

I have an excellent mechanic. I am going to the dealer one more time and then to him. I'm willing to pay if he can find the problem and correct it

I would try a different dealer if there is one close enough. It doesn't matter where you bought your Jeep.

I believe there is a brand new TSB out on the engine concerning the check engine light.
Not sure what it covers though. Id ask your dealer.

I have 12,000 miles on my cherokee.

Been in the shop 5 times.

1st time-shifting rough (fix-software flash)

2nd time - transmission cut out at highway speed, and I had to coast to the shoulder. Restarted several times to get the car to shift back down to first gear. I drove to the dealer with the check engine light on. (Fix-reset the computer system.

3rd time- picked the car up in the evening for the 2nd mentioned fix and the transmission cut out after 5 miles going highway speeds. Coasted to the shoulder, and restarted and drove back to the dealer. (Fix- the tail lights were leaking water into the spare tire well. The water was then leaking into the emergency brake module. Not sure I believe that. They replaced the ebrake electronic module and fixed the leak.)

4th time- about a week after fix number 3.... The transmission cut out at highway speeds. Once again I coasted to the shoulder and got it started again and took it back to the dealer. (Fix- replace the transmission and the transmission electronic module. Got the car back 2 weeks later.)

5th time- picked the car up from fix number 4, and drove to work and the drove home from work. On my way home from work the service engine light came on. Drove it to the dealer the next morning.

Waiting on the newest diagnosis as we speak.

What a nightmare.

We bought the 2014 Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel. 600 miles in and the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer, plugged the computer in and the light when out. Two days later, back on again. This time there were 5 trouble codes/issues that needed fixing including a software update from the factory. Two days later, the light came on again. This time they said it's a ruptured emissions hose or something. Had to order one and it's been two weeks. I have a feeling this thing will be in the shop every three or four days. Not a great feeling although we love the Jeep. It gets 30mpg and pulls my trailer at 15mpg. How long until all the bugs are fixed? Or is it a lemon in the making?
