Daytime light look burned

3 Attachment(s)
So today I saw another JGC on the road and noticed that one of their DTL was out. I said to myself god get that fix!!! Later as I was in traffic (bumper to bumper on the 101) I noticed that one of my DTL was out!! F$$$ me!! So I picked up some bulbs and went home to change them out. As I got home I started to inspect what I had to work with and realized it was not and easy/fast change so I decided to do it this weekend when I have more daylight. During my inspection I noticed that my current bulbs are burned at the base connector area. I start to wonder if this is normal and is this the reason that I've seen a few JGC with out DTL?? Has anyone see or heard of this?? Attachment 38091Attachment 38092Attachment 38093

Jeep will charge you $75 to replace it.

I don't mind changing the bulb myself but what concerns me is the burned out part. Doesn't seem normal to me. If that's the case it sounds like warranty related.

I have it on my socket as well. Just discoloration so I put new bulbs in with no issues

So the plot thickens this morning... I didn't change the bulbs last night but on my way into work this morning I noticed that my bulb is working!!! Wth!! So now it just goes out and come back when wants too??

I went ahead and called the local dealership to have it look at because another thing that is concerning me is the reflective background in the light housing. If you look right above the bulb you will see that the background is a milky color, as if the heat from the bulb is fading the coating. That's not right.

This is NOT just discoloration! The socket is actually DAMAGED!

There were several threads on here about this problem with the 2011 thru 2013 models! ALL of those models suffer from this design flaw. Its probably one of the reasons they changed the design in the 2014 models.

Here are some of those threads:

I mentioned this to my dealer last week over the phone. I'll show them at my next service. Attached is what mine looks like. Only problem is we have the phased out model so I'm not sure what the success rate to have the head lamps replaced are?

Re: Daytime light look burned

My dealer agreed to replace the sockets under warranty but the said they logged a ticket with STAR to see what they recommended with the Headlight housing. I said that the burned out socket is a direct cause of that milky look and they should also be replaced. Once they get word back on that, will dictate how they fix it.

Re: Daytime light look burned

Ask the dealer to open the headlamps and clean the fogged up reflector. - they won't do it as they know they can't clean it off and hopefully they'll do what they can to replace them.

Re: Daytime light look burned

Chrysler came through and replaced the sockets and headlights. The dealership said that the socket is a new part number so I hope that fixes the short issue and no more burning
