5.7L Hemi on 2011 4x4 Limited
Thinking of buying a 2011 4x4 Limited with the 5.7L Hemi engine. Does anyone know of any known constant problems with this engine? would like to know pros and cons. I know the MPG's is the main difference from the 3.7L V6 (con) and the power (pro), but aside from that has anyone experienced any constant engine problems? I have been a Jeep guy all my life starting from a 1988 Cherokee Chief 2.4L 4cil 4x4 and moving my way up to a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 with the 4.7L V8 and even a 2006 Commander 4x4 3.6L V6 (the wifes' DD).:D
Would like opinions on how your jeep has been working for you and if you would change your hemi for another engine size.

Thanks in advace for your help.

Love my '12 Hemi Limited. Instant power is always on tap at pretty much any speed. Just the other day I had to punch it while coasting around 30mph on a surface street to change lanes as the one I was in suddenly came to a dead stop. I checked my mirror and another car in my target lane was coming up quick, so I needed to quickly match his speed so he wouldn't have to slam on his brakes. The power was instantaneous and authoritative, and as a result I only "sorta kinda" cut off the guy behind me. (I don't normally drive like such a d!ck, but the alternative was 10-car-pileup material) Offroad it is great. Not sure how the V6 fares on steeper hills, (offroad) but I can't imagine it would be as good. Gas mileage isn't fantastic but hey you gotta pay to play.

The only thing I would consider getting instead of the Hemi is the diesel. DPF issues notwithstanding, it has more power in the RPM band where I normally drive and much better gas mileage. I just hope I don't get stuck in limp mode when I'm 10+ miles away from pavement.

I'd trade my 5.7 for the 6.4 but that's about it.

Ditto, the 5.7 rocks. And, I had the V6 in my 2012 Laredo. Average difference in gas mileage for me is 1.63mpg (I use an app to track it), not enough difference to go back to the six.

I have an '11 GC with the hemi engine. Mine has been faultless for the three years I've been driving it. Monitoring this forum for engine problems for the past years, I've noticed only a couple of complaints about the engine. Occasionally, you might get a momentary puff of oil smoke from the exhaust upon starting, especially if parked on a slight incline. This is an annoyance only, and is due to the oil pan design. The other is oil consumption that a few owners have noticed, some as much as 1 qt per 1,000 miles. Chrysler says this is acceptable. My hemi shows no oil loss between changes. The 5.7L hemi is a very reliable and strong engine.

I have a 2011 with the hemi and I love it. It likes it fuel. The only thing I would like is the 8 speed transmission.

3.5 years with the 5.7 V-8 in my 2011 Grand Cherokee with no issues. I like it even more after installing the Mopar CAI.

This engine has been around for awhile in many Chrysler vehicles, including the Ram trucks. There are millions of miles on this engine to gather data.

Re: 5.7L Hemi on 2011 4x4 Limited
Well, i got good news and bad news:

Bad new first: Will have to wait for the WK2 purchase the wiffie didnt want to have that payment for now and that's ok, that way by the time we do get it in about a year or so there will be plenty of more upgrades available and a little less costlier, hopefully!

Good news: We got a good deal and couldn't pass up on a 05 WK Limited with the 4.7L V8, not the Hemi, but will have to do for now. The jeep is very nice with low mileage and has all the Limited options including the tv for the kidos.

We bought it about 1 week ago and that same week I was able to buy some tires off a 2014 Rubicon and ordered the lift for it. With the extra cash we would have spent on the WK2 I was able to do this. I guess for now this will have to do.

Thanks a lot for your input, this helped me get convinced that I shall give the HEMI a try. I knew the "power" issue was the main thing just konwing that it was there whenever needed, which is a plus and I guess I can live with the mpg issue since it wouldn't be that big of a difference compared to the V8 or V6.
