MPG with 2wd & factory tow package

I am a new member; hopefully I can contribute to the forum.
Thanks for having me in here, hopefully I am not rehashing something already posted.

I received my 14 GC Ecodiesel about 2 months ago and it has about 1800 miles on it now. It is a 2wd Limited with the factory tow package. I saw an article on the net (cannot find it now) where it talked about there being 2 axle ratios available for this Jeep - I think one was a 3.45 for most or a 3.92 that may have been for ones with the tow package only or similar. When I ordered mine they did not tell me about any such axle options. The article went on to indicate that the mileage with the 3.92 was a little better than the 22 advertized in the city and a little worse than the 30 on the highway.
I would say my driving is mostly city although there is some driving involved in the 50 to 65 mpg range. The mileage I have received so far has far exceeded my expectations, it shows 26 currently and I have not reset it since I picked it up. I made one longer trip (about 275 miles) where the speeds ranged from about 60 to 75 mph but the mileage then was not really much better that what I see in the city. To be fair there was a big headwind for much of that trip. Also I pulled a fairly heavy boat for only about 5 miles during a portion of that trip. No problem at all pulling that big beast.
Oh well I like most everything about my Jeep so far.

Do any of you have the factory tow package like me and if you do how is your mileage? Do any of you know about the axles - in other words with the factory tow package is it likely I have a 3.92 or what?
Thanks for any feedback!

MPG with 2wd & factory tow package

My 4x4 has factory tow (Off Road II)

It has 3.45 according to the build sheet.

I think all of the '14s do.

Re: MPG with 2wd & factory tow package

I pulled my sticker and it only refers to Trailer Tow Group IV. I looked again on the net and found the article that I mentioned.

I was mistaken - the article was for the Ram 1500 with the ecodiesel with either 3.92 or 3.55 ratios to choose from.

I think you are right it appears only 3.45 is on our Jeeps. Hopefully my highway mileage will go up as it breaks in. Thanks!

Having a 2wd you wouldn't have Off Road II as an option - but it includes the IV tow package

I get 31-32 mpg on highway trips with 4x4 ORA2 at 65 to 70 mph. I have 12k on the odometer now.

I also have a limited 2 wheel drive 3.0 tow package and I am averaging over 26MPG with mixed driving.

How are you guys liking the 2wd trucks? I know that with all that torque and a little lag, it get a 'slighshot' feel off the line in my 4wd and slip the tires some...pretty often. Are you guys lighting them up, or is the traction control kicking in?

I love it, great MPG, great power, Traction control kicks in although I haven't put it to the floor yet. Had my dad with me and I got on it a little to enter the HWY and he said man this thing has some pep lol. I haven't towed with it yet, but i'm sure it will tow with ease. Once it's broken in i'll have to take off traction control and put it to the floor at least once :-)

Yes mine is not broken in yet so I am not really getting on it. Once I get 3 or 4k miles on it I may slip off the traction control and try it out.

Our little 3.0 makes close to 430 ft-lb peak torque at 2k rpm. No need to rev it up...just a quick stab on the throttle ought to break the tires lose. C'mon, it'll feel good! :)
