Humming Noise when over 35mph

Started hearing this humming noise coming from the engine compartment or wheels not sure for about a week now. It happens when start getting into the 35mph range. It sounds like a humming noise similar to a Lifted truck with big tires going down the interstate the loud tire noise but not load just same type of sound. I rev the engine and it doesn't get louder goes with like I said before the rotation or speed of the tires. I can also feel some sort of vibration on the gas pedal. Wondering if anyone has had similar issues with a 2012 grand cherokee at about 36,900 miles.

Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing.

Any idea how much this would be to replace?

So I took it to the dealer and thy said it was the left and right wheel bearings. Breakdown if the service is below, can anyone tell me is that's around how much it should be?

Diagnostics - 130
Labor - $221
Parts - $231
Total $582

You should try to get Jeep to cover that you should not be loosing a wheel bearing at 2 years and 36K miles. yes technically you are 900 miles over the warranty but see if they will do a good faith repair on that. Call customer service and talk to them about it. Tell them you are only at 36k and you should not be getting a failure like that so early. They don't have to do it but worth a try.

Yeah your right. Gonna give it a try. So to suggest to call the dealer customer service or jeep directly?

You could try asking the dealer first but I doubt you will get anywhere with them on it. you probably will need to get jeep to authorize it as a good faith repair if they do it. Remember they don't have to because technically you are out of warranty but I just think you may have a decent chance at it with a repair like that at those low miles. Good Luck

To answer your question this is about what I would expect to pay for two bearings to be done. I would try to get it covered under warranty. The most effective way to make that happen is ask the service manager to make the call the Chrysler. This will be better than you or a service writer calling. With the mileage being so close they should be willing to help you out. A good dealer should do this anyway, but you will probably have to ask because customer pay is more profitable than warranty work.

Thank you silvermax04 and jp467 for giving me the idea of calling Chrysler . I called Chrysler directly and talked to a customer service rep that was very helpful. He sounded like this isn't something new and something they might be able to handle for me. He asked if I had paid for anything and I told him yes, $130 for the diagnostics. Told me to keep that receipt because I might be able to get that refunded to me along with the price of te parts and the labor. Said he will /submit my request to honor my repairs under the warranty. Said it will take about a day or two to get a response. Got my fingers crossed. Thanks again for giving me the idea, I had already given up and looking to pay for it out of my pocket. Love this site!

My current car ('13 Charger) is having the same issue. I figured it's the wheel bearing. It has 25,500 miles on it. I'm dropping it off after work tomorrow. I'll be playing with Grand Cherokees before I leave.

So I finally got a call from Chrystal and they gave me some good news. They said I would have to pay$200 and they would pay the remaining $380. Pretty happy about that. Will be taking my jeep in for the repair on Friday. Thanks again to everyone for your help, it's greatly appreciated.

Good to hear glad they are helping you out with that. Never hurts to ask on a situation like that.
