v6 engine noise at idle??

when jeep GC is warmed up and drops to low idle, its makes a sound like nook, nook, nook, nook at idle, it revs up smooth but sounds like an old engine at idle, anyone with the v6 hear a noise similiar to this, sounds like a motor with a rod knock or spun bearing but fainter sounding... especially noticeable when u pull up to a drive thru window.. it echos badly.. dealership said its normal ?? pretty loud for a new engine

I had a tapping noise at idle and the lifter(s) had to be replaced. It was covered under warranty at 60k miles.

Mine just started up with what sounds like it's probably the same noise. I describe it as a chirping that comes from the belts or water pump, only after it reaches normal engine temp and I only hear it when I pull into my garage or at drive thrus.

Pretty positive it's a bad water pump for me, as I read they are a known problem for the 5.7 specifically, yet it seems related to the 3.6 too.

Here's a video I found of a guy with a Wrangler 3.6 Pentastar engine that needs the water pump to be replaced:

Water Pump Noise - YouTube

It sounds almost identical to mine: (ignore the terrible stretched image and watermark. the noise is what i was capturing and you can hear it pretty clearly)

I reluctantly called my dealer and quickly asked a service tech about a weird noise coming from the belts and I thought it may be a bad water pump, to which the tech immediately tuned me out. They seem to do that when you come in saying you "think you know" what the problem may be. He was an asshat so I decided I'll live with it a bit longer. :glare:

wow, urs definatley sounds bad, mine is more subtle and not a squeeling chirp noise, more a nock nock noise in lower end at idle.

My lifter noise sounded like it was coming from the bottom, very noticeable from the wheel lower area. It ended up being the lifters, I guess it was the way the nose bounced off the ground or something. It accelerated and ran smooth, just a weird idle as you mentioned with tapping nose. I'm not saying that's what it is but they couldn't diagnose it without opening up the cover. You can disconnect the drive belt and if the noise persists it's the engine. At least that's what they did on mine before opening it up.

I've had two water pumps replaced on a 3.6 engine( two different cars),It's a bad bearing.
